Julie Veach Obituary

Julie J. Veach July 13, 1922 - June 12, 2006 Julie J. Veach, affectionately known as "Chooch", was born on the 13th of July 1922 in San Francisco to Italian immigrant parents, Giacomo and Maria Torti. Julie attended Most Holy Redeemer grammar school and graduated from St. Paul's High School in the "The City" she loved. Julie worked in her father's Italian delicatessen on Castro Street after school and it is here that she would meet her eventual husband Jay D. Veach, while he was on a weekend pass from Hamilton Field in 1941. Jay was on his way to the South Pacific when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and he spent the next four years in New Guinea and Australia. Upon his return and discharge from the Army Air Corps, he married Julie in 1945 and started a family and a business in San Francisco. Family was always Julie's first priority followed closely by her dedication to keeping the books for Boat and Motor Mart, the company that she and Jay started in 1955. Boat & Motor Mart's first location was on the corner of Gough and Fulton Streets and moved to Army Street in 1960. The business remained in SF until January of 2005 when it moved to its present location at Oyster Point Marina in South San Francisco. Julie worked everyday at the dealership until February of this year when she started radiation therapy for her cancer treatments. Julie was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Jay D. Veach in 1978 and Nancy (Veach) Olcese in 1997 and is survived by her son Jay "Kelly" Veach and her four grandchildren, Jay D. Veach, Joel Dennis Veach, Julene Nicole Veach and Michael J. Dominic Olcese. Other family members include her daughter-in-law, Janice Veach; son-in-law, Ralph Olcese; nephew and niece, Ron Bellatorre and Joan Axtman. Julie loved music and had a special affection for the swing tunes of the big band sound. She loved to dance, especially the jitterbug, and had a passion for life with an infectious smile and expressive eyes. The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the Seton's radiology department, the Pathways Hospice staff and her long time friend Marie D' Amore who helped take care of Julie in her final journey. A special note of appreciation to Father Anthony P. Sauer, SJ for his steadfast support and spiritual strength. Friends and family may visit Monday at 6:30pm and are invited to attend the Rosary at 7:30pm at St. Thomas More Church, 1300 Junipero Serra Blvd., SF. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, 10:00am also at St. Thomas More Church. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Donations may be made to: American Lung Association, 2171 Junipero Serra Blvd., Suite 720 Daly City, CA 94014 or your favorite charity.

It was with great sadness that I read of Julie Veach's passing. It brought back many memories - of Julie, Nancy, Joyce and many others. What a time we had together at St. Thomas More! We laughed, cried, and prayed together. Our community wouldn't be the same without you. We miss you all.

Julie and the entire Veach family:

We all go back so far in our ties and relationships at St. Thomas More. I know that Nancy is smiling with her "Mom" now. Michael and Ralph, I love you both and I thank your entire family from the bottom of my heart for enjoying my music so much for so many years. We had so many nice dinners at your home too. Julie always treated me with great respect and love. I will never forget you. Adoramus Te Domine!

God bless,

Dr. Larry Love, Ed.D.
