Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 11, 2014 at age 93.
Born June 21, 1920 to Mendel and Evelyn Snider, and brother Baron Snider in Melbourne, Australia. On a family voyage to America in 1940, she met and married Lucien W. Simon Jr. in San Francisco where she spent the majority of her life, before escaping the fog to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek.
June could put anyone at ease. Her extraordinary grace and beauty were admired by family and friends. She dazzled everyone she met with her welcoming personality, warmth and empathy, and often stunned them with her salty sense of humor. She had the patience of a saint providing endless support to Lucien as he ran Simon Bros Gourmet Grocers, the family business on California St in San Francisco.
Affectionate and devoted mother to her three sons Jeff, David and Perry; their wives Maria, Linda and Susan who all referred to her as their "second mother"; loving "Fufu" to her five grandchildren Helena, Gregory, Michelle, Julia and Ian; and "Fufu the Great" to great-grandchildren Charlie & Anna and Dimitri & Gabriel. Later in her life she shared a joyful companionship with the late Mike Weissbrod. Her love of family made her the "go-to" matriarch both here and in Australia, beloved on both sides of the Pacific.
June was laid to rest beside her husband Lucien at Hills of Eternity Cemetery as her immediate family gathered around her sharing anecdotes, memories and messages of love, affection, admiration and humor.
Donations can be made in her name to: Congregation Sherith Israel www.sherithisrael.org , The Natl Council of Jewish Women www.ncjwsf.org and the Magen David Adom www.afmda.org
