Karen Wright Obituary

Karen Elaine Wright
12/05/2025
Karen Elaine Wright, age 70, of San Carlos, California, died on December 5, 2025 at UCSF hospital due to complications from cancer.
Karen was born in Burlingame, CA to Victor and Shirley Neugebauer on July 21, 1955. Her childhood was spent in Millbrae and Daly City where she graduated from Westmoor High School. She went on to UC Santa Cruz and then UC Berkeley where she earned her BA in English, later pursuing a Masters at CSU-Chico.
Along the way, she met the love of her life, Mark Wright. They married on May 28, 1983 and were blessed with twin sons, Jason and Trevor, in March of 1985.
Karen's love of literature never faded even as she entered the pension plan profession. She later opened her company, KW Plans, which she successfully operated for over 30 years. Having her own business, she believed, gave her the most flexibility to be with family and friends.
Karen generously shared her enthusiasm for life. She loved strolling the beach, being among the redwoods, playing bocce, rafting down the Stanislaus River and walking JJ, the family Yorkie, around the neighborhood. She always looked forward to family vacations at Lake Almanor and opening day for the SF Giants. She was an avid fan and rarely missed a game.
Karen was vivacious, loving and giving; a true friend, an amazing sister and aunt, a nurturing mother and supportive wife. She leaves us all stronger for having had her in our lives.
She is survived by her husband, Mark; her sons, Jason (Paul) and Trevor; her sister Cheryl Fama (Denis); her sister Donna Covert (Robert); her brother David Neugebauer (Lena); as well as her Wright family and many nieces and nephews.
The memorial celebration will be held on January 9, 2026, at 11 AM, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1106 Alameda de las Pulgas, San Carlos, CA, 94070.
Donations in Karen's name to The American Cancer Society or the UCSF Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
