Katherine Bishop Obituary

Katherine Ann Bishop (nee Plat)
May 7, 1946—February 13, 2022
Kathy loved all things chocolate—especially See's peanut butter patties. She loved the beach, flowers, Lottie's ice cream, beautiful clothes and shoes, dancing, reading, dogs (not cats), walking the Briones Trail in Walnut Creek. She loved her husband, Terry, her dog Khloe, her sisters Kendra and Kelly, her nieces and nephews and her very best friend Bobbie Saunders.

Kathy was born in San Jose, CA on May 7, 1946. She grew up in Campbell with her brother Peter and her three sisters, Keven, Kendra and Kelly. She graduated from Campbell High School and graduated from San Jose State with an idea of becoming a fashion designer. All her life she loved fabric and design. She also received her teaching credential and taught 4th and 6th grade for a short time. She had a long and successful career as a Project Manager for large data communications and telecommunications companies. She was respected for the work she did as a Project Manager and was consistently recognized for her contributions.

Kathy loved meeting and talking with anyone. She was gracious and kind. She was a giving volunteer and spent many hours teaching reading for the Project 2nd Chance and being a board member at Chaparral House where her mother Kay was a resident. She also volunteered, raised money and walked for the Alzheimer's Association of Northern California and Northern Nevada.

Her husband Terry was a loving and devoted partner in all things for over 30 years. They traveled to Hawaii, London, Italy, Ireland, and Paris where Kathy appreciated the cultures, the museums, and the art. Additionally they traveled throughout the United States as well as Canada and Mexico.
She was a long-standing ticket holder for the San Francisco Ballet where she was mesmerized by the strength and beauty of the dancers. It was important to her to sit close but not too close. Kathy was at home at the ballet, a beautiful art exhibit, the local farmer's market, watching her Warriors and her guy, Steph Curry on TV.

Kathy loved cooking and hosting lovely dinner parties including Thanksgiving, leg of lamb on Christmas day and delicious ham on New Year's Day. She loved to eat good food and enjoyed it all—from burgers on the grill to fine dining at Gary Dankos and everything in between. A good glass of wine was always enjoyed.

Kathy believed in fairness, goodness, and equality. She was meticulous in all things, but didn't expect perfectionism in others. She befriended and accepted everyone she met. Every time she rode BART she made two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and gave them to someone in need, gave generously to her charities and volunteered for many organizations that she believed were doing exceptional work for those less fortunate.

She loved to laugh and dance and enjoyed many concerts and especially loved seeing her all-time favorite Barbra Streisand in person where she practically bought out the souvenir stand every time.

Kathy worked hard all her life and enjoyed the love of family and friends to her very last breath. We who love Kathy will always miss her presence but know that wherever we go and whatever we do she too will be with us.

Kathy is survived by her sisters, Kendra and Kelly, her loving husband Terry, her best friend Bobbie and numerous friends, and former co-workers. She is preceded in death by her mother Katherine, her father, Edward, sister Keven and brother Peter.

A Celebration of her life will be held at some point in the future. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to The Alzheimer's Association at www.org and click the green Donate button. Checks should be made out to the Alzheimer's Association and mailed to 2290 N First St #101, San Jose, CA 95131 attn: Donor Services.

I was lucky enough to know Kathy during her time volunteering at the Alzheimer's Association. She always lightened the mood in the office and had us all laughing. We both loved dogs, ballet, cute shoes, and sewing, and although we met in the East Bay it turns out we grew up just a few miles apart! I'll always be thankful our paths crossed.

Thank you for everything you did for me Aunt Kathy. I will never forget all the memories we shared. You are truly missed. I remember going home from shopping in SF and you wanted to stop at a little candy shop to get a piece of Chocolate. Or the time it was so cold outside, and I begged you to let me go swimming. You said it was too cold. but I kept begging you and you finally let me go in the pool and all I did was sit on the step in the pool and shiver. I'll never forget us baking cookies together. So many good memories. I'm sorry I never got to say goodbye. I love you Aunt Kathy.
