Keith Brown Obituary

Keith M. Brown Capt. U.S. Army Ret. Died April 3, 2007 in Burlingame, CA, after an illness of 10 months. He was 86, born in Monon, IN, on 23 May, 1920. Capt. Brown entered the military in Denver, CO, as a private, serving his country in the Army Air Corps as it was known in 1938. He continued his service in the regular Air Force and during World War II was sent to the Islands of Saipan and Tinian. While on Tinian he discovered his brother-in-law, Jerry Spencer, U.S. Navy, who also was passing through the Islands. It was a happy reunion for the two men and they had a short reminiscence of family and friends back home in Indiana before shipping out. After the war Capt. Brown transferred to the Army where he received a commission as second lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps graduating at Ft. Riley, KS. He and his family then served four years in the U.S. Army of Occupation stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Married to the former Betty Spencer in June 1942 the couple originated in Indiana. They and their children continued travels and military service in the Asian Theatre, spending two and one half years on the Ryukian Island of Okinawa. Upon retiring from the military Capt. Brown was employed by the Dept. of Defense in Burlingame. Preceding him in death are his late parents, Archie Dean and Ruth Ogborn Brown. Floyd J. Brown, step father, is also deceased. Floyd, a bachelor, adopted 14 year old Keith and his seven siblings after Archie died of spinal meningitis. Sisters, Lorena Trost and Mellie Buschman along with brothers, John E. and Robert Brown preceded Keith in death. Survivors include June Jones of Monticello, IN, and brothers, Jack G. and Richard R. Brown of Florida. The deceased's wife, Betty and children also survive; daughters, Cheri (David) Lawson of Lake Arrowhead, CA, and Rebecca (Douglas) Stow, Gold Beach, Oregon; son, Kevin S. Brown of Woodland, CA. Nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren are living. Keith was a life member of the Masons, 50-year member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Methodist Church. Burial was in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA, on 6 April, 2007 with military honors. He will live in our hearts forever.

I will miss Grandfather so much, and we can't wait to see him again in Heaven. I agree with Zipporah about his always making jokes. I still tell some of them to this day. And I will never forget flying up in the summer with Andrew to visit Grandfather and Nana. I thank God for those memories.

Uncle Keith was a wonderful man. I will always remember him fondly. When my parents and I visited your family there was always lots of laughter and smiles. God must truly have needed an angel when he called him home.

Grandfather was always cracking a joke. Probably at least 10 per day--always making us laugh. One of my favorite memories of grandfather is of him sitting in the back yard in Burlingame with Rosemary on his lap (she was a plump smiling baby) and a new huge stuffed animal duck for her. It was just a happy day.

What a nice poem. Wherever he is, he is content and at peace I'm sure.

There's a very special garden
Where the trees of memory grow
Nurtured by the kindness
And concern that loved ones show.
The roots are cherished memories
Of good times in the past
The branches tender promises
That souls endure and last.
It's a place of peace and beauty
Where bright new hopes can start
It's memory's lovely garden
That soothes the hurting heart.

~I remember how my Daddy loved to garden and will think of him as I work in my own garden. I will be planting a rose in remembrance of him~
