I just recently learned of Gus's passing. My daughter, Nicole, moved from a small town in Minnesota to San Francisco without knowing a single person. Her first job was at the Noriega Market. She always talked about how much she enjoyed working there and how nice Gus and his family were to her. Gus was so kind and caring to her. He made sure she was taken care of and watched over her since her family lived so far away. II remember one time visiting my daughter with my parents. Gus got us tickets to a Giants game, he wanted to make sure we enjoyed our time in San Francisco. My heart is broken that his life was taken so tragically and too soon. He was a great man and will be missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers to Georgia, Dimitri, Bobby and his grandchildren. Cherish all the love and memories close to your hearts.

Gus was an amazing person. I talked to him a few times at noriega and he seemed like such an honest and genuine human being. Although I didn't know him well I could easily tell that he was an amazing person.

it's difficult to find words that convey the loss of Gus passing. Too soon. A big hole in the hearts of all who crossed paths with you, Gus. A young life snuffed out for no reason. Hard to make sense of it. Rest assured you will forever be in our thoughts and I'm sending love and strength to the family.

When we moved to the Haight in 2011 with a 2 year old and a newborn, the Haight St Market enabled our new family to survive. We were often there 3 times a day and we got to know Gus and Georgia. Their warmth and friendliness made our transition from NYC to San Francisco bearable. Thank you for all your have done for us and our community. Gus, you will be in our hearts forever.

I was lucky enough to have Gus as neighbour when I lived in the haight. We used to chase each other around his store with his kids when they were teenagers. His whole family were wonderful. A terrible loss but his memory lives on through his sons and their family.

Gus was a perfectionist in all that he did. He knew what he wanted to achieve and worked long hours to get to it..
He commanded respect and gave the same to others. His hand shake was written bond. He was a devoted family man and gave his best.. We all can learn from the way he lived his life.. His sons , Bobby and Dimitri , were blessed to have him as their father. His beautiful wife, Georgia , can be proud of his everlasting love for her.. Gus, you left an aura that will forever be with us. As you leave on your journey , reserve a spot there for us. It has been an honor to have you as a friend and client. Jim Barbic, your tax guy.

God bless you , Gus, for being a role model to all of us as a dedicated family man and loving father, husband, and grandfather and father in some ways to our Haight Ashbury community with all its transience--we could feel how solid of a person you were! Thank you for being there for all of us and making sure we had good food that we could eat from your market. We know it came from loving care and loving hearts. We are in mourning and it will take time to grieve our great loss. We will be there to support your stores and give as much support to Georgia , sons, beloved family and extended family members-and your workers who are grieving also. You touched so many lives with your goodness! Thank you, Gus! I have lived in Haight a block away from your store 42 years and went to your store almost every day when home.
