Larry Lynch Obituary

Larry Lynch
June 12, 1941 - October 29, 2021
Passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2021 at the age of 80 with Shaina by his side. Loving brother to John Lynch (deceased) and sister Adrianne Roletto. Devoted uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and friend to many. Half-brother to Rory, Pat and Tim Lynch.
Larry was born in San Francisco, attending St. Monica's before moving to the East Bay. He graduated from Bishop O'Dowd and then the University of Notre Dame. He served in the Peace Corps in Brazil before returning to the city to focus on his love of Irish music and dance. There will be a celebration of his life in January 2022. Larry's legacy lives on in the Irish Dance community in the Bay Area. Any time I've joined a Country Dance occasion, those more knowledgeable than me have been so welcoming and warm. It is Larry's legacy. Thanks to him and thanks to you, dear Shaina, whom he loved so very dearly. - Caitlin Croughan

Ah, dear Shaina. I discovered this today online as I was searching for you and Larry. You´d been on my mind frequently this past year. I am so sorry to hear about Larry´s passing. He was a kind and generous man who I will remember always for his love of music and dance and all things Irish. He enriched my life during the years of set dancing classes and I will keep you both in my heart. Blessings to you.

Larry Lynch introduced me to Irish Country Dance. He was a scholar in the field and helped preserve many of its important dance traditions. A national Irish step dance champion, he wanted to bring ease and even romance into people's lives through country dance. In his classes he was a great teacher, modest and full of fun. My mother and father joined him on a 'country dance' tour of rural Ireland, and just loved it. Our hearts go out to you, dear Shaina. I still remember your beautiful wedding, and all the love (and music! and dancing!) shared that day. We love and honor you and your wonderful husband, Larry Lynch.

I learned just yesterday of Larry's passing at the memorial celebration of Cliff Jenkins. I have Larry's series of Irish dance books and music. He was my favorite teacher at Stocktin Folk Dance Camp and I will miss Mr. Lynch's gentle cueing and dance calling at The Land. May this gentle, humble teacher and expert Irish set dancer rest in peace, knowing he made a difference in the lives of his students. May Shaina and those who grieve his passing be granted strength at this difficult time, and may Larry's memory be a blessing to us all.
