Lawrence Rothe Obituary

Lawrence August Rothe

Lawrence August Rothe, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on 11/26/18. Son of Lawrence Sr. and Dorothy Downey Rothe, Larry was born 9/28/48 and grew up in D'Hanis, Texas, the oldest of seven children.

After studying veterinary medicine at Texas A&M University, Larry moved to California at age 23 to begin his career as a small animal veterinarian. He ran Disney Pet Hospital for the last 28 years, where he was beloved by clients and colleagues. He often expressed how fortunate he felt to have found a career he loved.

Larry was a kind, thoughtful man known for his affection for family and friends, his generous laughter, and his compassionate belief that everyone does their best. He enjoyed reading, golfing, traveling and sharing stories, and loved every year more than the last.

Larry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Bonnie Clare, son Michael, son Jordan (Sarah), daughter Polly, two grandchildren, as well as his six siblings and their families.

Definitely not the result I was looking for when being back in the area an needing a couple cat neuters done. This is such an unexpected tragedy to learn of, and I'm sending a hug from a stranger to the still existing family and circle of souls this man touched so deeply. I'm a prev vet tech of many years, and still took my pets to Larry. He just had a different bedside manner than most; especially when it came to decisions with impossible parameters on all facets. He somehow was able to bring around the best one, and make it work. Talk about make it work... After a chihuahua needing pins in her leg, and a black cat named Dan the man needing 4 surgeries in hopes of repairing a broken leg, all the way to Dan getting crazy then hurt again and loosing the leg entirely Larry never made the task it situation of any bother. I can only imagine the type of family he must have after seeing how selfless he was at extending his efforts to others with no such boundaries of indifference in play. I'm so bummed about this news, and hope his replacement at the clinic knows how big of shoes he will need to fill... The biggest injustice to this chapter closing would be someone that truly isn't cut out for such displays of compassion and kindness as this man did ... Thoughts are with this though some time has passed. I just found by accident, and in a bittersweet way, I'm so very glad I did. It was an honor to have interacted with Mr. Rothe

I knew Larry from a very early age. His parents were close friends of my parents. Larry and I went to Texas A&M together. I was shocked to hear of his passing. My sympathies to his family and know that he was loved and respected by so many.

I just learned that Dr. Rothe passed. He was an incredible veterinarian. Very caring and honest. I started taking my pets to him when I fostered cats and worked with the rescue organization. He was so wonderful I stayed on with his practice for 20 years.

Dr. Rothe was the most caring animal doctor ever! We have taken our animals to him since he took over the clinic from Dr. Disney. He not only took care of our animals but he took care of their owners as well. His smile was infectious and sincere.. May God comfort your family during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed!

Dr. Rothe did a surgery on a dog we rescued. It was an eye surgery which would have cost us more than we had. He said it may not work but he wanted to help. I will forever remember his generous loving heart. It was a reminder that wonderful people exist.
