Lily Tsao Obituary
Lily Yeh Tsao Born July 13, 1935 in Beijing, China, Lily passed away on May 13, 2007 in San Francisco, California. She was preceded in death by her daughter Tehsin. She is survived by her loving husband Henry Tsao; daughters, Teling and Teyun; by her son Anthony and by seven grandchildren. Lily attended San Francisco City College where she studied journalism. She established the Sun Yat-Sen News, a newspaper published in San Francisco's Chinatown, which she operated as editor-in-chief from 1976 through 2006. Lily was also employed as a freelance reporter for several major Chinese language newspapers in the United States and Taiwan. From 1980 to 2006 Lily authored and published five volumes constituting a "Who's Who" of Chinatown community heroes and leaders - Exuberant Figures in Overseas Chinese Community. Lily also authored a book in 1967 on certain aspects of the overseas Chinese community, and its impact on economic and political developments in China - Sino Heart and China's Fate . Lily was devoted to her community, donating much of her time to community affairs and to those in need. She enjoyed traveling and saw much of the world. She will be remembered dearly and with an enduring sense of pride. Services will be held at Green Street Mortuary, 649 Green Street, San Francisco, CA 94133 (415-433-5692; 415-433-2290). Lily's Funeral Service is on Sunday May 20, at 12:00 Noon, followed by funeral procession to Cypress Lawn Cemetery Hillside Iris Garden in Colma. A family wake will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, and this time is also available for friends and acquaintances who wish to pay their respects, but are unable to attend the Funeral. Free valet parking is available for both these services. The family respectfully requests that individuals refrain from donations of flowers or money. Should individuals nonetheless desire to make a financial donation in Lily's memory, any contributions will be dedicated to a scholarship fund to be administered by Lily's family association, the Hakka Association of Northern California.
