November 24, 1941 - August 27, 2016
Linda Lowry Newsom, 74, of San Francisco, CA, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Greenwich, CT on August 27. Born in Medford, OR in 1941, Linda attended Medford High School and the University of Oregon. A lover of theater and the arts, Linda was a stage and film actress who appeared in numerous productions in Nevada, California, New York, Maine and Connecticut. She was a world traveler who spoke four languages and made friends everywhere she visited. She was a member of SAG/AFTRA, Actors Equity, The National Arts Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. As a protege and torchbearer of Robert "Bobby" Lewis, she ultimately channeled her gift into teaching, where her passion and mastery inspired legions of devoted students. In her classes she shared a fierce dedication to her craft as well as a total commitment to the "work." She was preceded in death by her parents Neva Wall and Burton Lowry and her brother Douglas Lowry. Linda is survived by her daughter, Martha Stabler, and her husband, Peter, and grandchildren, Emily and Timothy as well as her sister, Bonnie Lowry, and brother, Burton Lowry. Although she resided in the Bay Area, she spent many happy years on the East Coast, living for a time in Greenwich, and reveled in her long- time friendships there. Linda was a vibrant, glamorous, creative force whose joie de vivre and generous, caring spirit will live on in all who knew and loved her. A memorial service celebrating Linda's life will be held on Nov. 23, at 11 a.m, at Christ Church Greenwich, 254 East Putnam. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Actors Fund or Cathedral School for Boys in San Francisco. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

It breaks my heart to find out my first and only acting coach passed away a year and a half ago. Linda Lowry was a shinning light, an amazing Mother and Wife and Grandmother and ONE talented actor and acting coach. She was a special gift from above, where she now looks down from. I considered her a somewhat of a second Mother. Linda, I appreciate you, love you and your spirit will forever be alive in my world.
Your truly,
Traycee

I am very, very sad to hear that my beloved teacher and director, Linda Lowry, has passed. Her brilliant mentoring and training helped me get into one of the top drama grad schools in the country. I eventually moved to NYC, but called her and got together when I was in San Francisco. And we continued our creative professional relationship even after I left the Bay Area. She directed my solo show - which was very well-received. In fact, I've been calling her for a few months, hoping she'd direct me in my new show. Now I've discovered this obit... and am very sad. Rest in peace, sweet Linda. Thank you for lifting me up, inspiring me, and when the occasion warranted - stiffening my spine. I will keep your lessons and inspiration in my heart and in my work always.

Linda was kind, lovely, gracious and beautiful lady. We met in Junior High, Medford, Oregon, cheerleaders and somewhat crazy people. We did many plays together in High School, she was always the lead!
I'll treasure the time we spent together at the last HS reunion, number 55 ..Many of her Oregon friends send their love to the
family and are sorry they couldn't be at the memorial..
Linda is a shining star above us all.
