It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lindsay MacDermid, aged 88, on March 3, 2025. Born in New Jersey, Lindsay was proud of his Scottish roots and sported his full kilt regalia on special occasions.
After graduating from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1960, Lindsay embarked on a successful career in the computer industry. He met the love of his life, Jean Wilkinson, in the Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel in New York City in 1965. Lindsay proposed to Jean on their second date, and they married six weeks later. Two years after the wedding, their daughter Jessica was born while the family was living in Lima, Peru. Son, Wally followed within two years.
Avid world travelers, Lindsay and Jean were constantly on the go to all corners of the globe, from river rafting through the Grand Canyon to archeological site-hopping in Jordan to donning masks for Carnival in Venice. The couple lived in Singapore for the last five years of Lindsay's career, giving them the opportunity to explore all corners of Asia. The international treasures that fill their house are a tangible memorial to their swashbuckling adventures.
Following his retirement, Lindsay volunteered with the Merola Opera, gardened, and spent treasured hours playing bridge with friends at the Presidio Concordia Club. He and Jean were social butterflies and entertained with elegance. Parties in their backyard carriage house were legendary. Even small family dinners were made special - filled with delicious food, plenty of wine, and always a beautifully set table. The next time his friends gather around a beautiful meal, please lift a glass of red wine in his honor.
Lindsay died nearly 1 year to the date after his beloved Jean. The remaining family likes to picture them together, continuing their lifelong love story.
Lindsay is survived by his daughter, Jessica; son, Wally; daughter-in-law, Ellen; and grandsons, Malcolm and Calum. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
