Lorna Deruyter Obituary
11/21/1929 - 10/29/2024
Lorna Grivet deRuyter died peacefully on October 29, 2024 in San Francisco, Ca. Lorna was born in Price, Utah on November 21, 1929 to George and Carene Grivet.
As a child, Lorna visited San Francisco and left her heart in the city. After graduation in 1951 from St. Mary's of the Wasatch in Salt Lake City, Utah, she returned to San Francisco in 1953 to begin a career of teaching. Lorna loved the challenge of teaching students who struggled to read which lead her to obtain a Masters Degree in Special Education from San Francisco State University in 1975. After she retired, Lorna joined the Dolphin Swimming and Boating Club where she achieved the status of being a lifetime member. She also became a student of the Italian language at the Aquatic Park Senior Center.
Friendships were important to Lorna, many lasting a lifetime. She enjoyed getting together with her friends to dine, listen to jazz or engage in great conversation.
Lorna is survived by her daughter Bernadette and many cherished friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday December 17th at St. Dominic's Church, 2390 Bush Street in San Francisco.
