LOUISE was like a big sister to me. With her husband Bill, they were our substitute family after we moved to the United States in the mid-80s.
I visited Louise in Ashland shortly before she passed away, where she had recently moved close to her son, Geoff, and where I also joined her other son, Ted, who lives in New York.
Louise was a unique character, determined, assertive, and extremely generous in friendship. She was a fabulous hostess; her elaborate dinner parties were one of a kind. She convinced me to stop playing tennis and take up golf, and since she was frustrated with slow players, I learned to play fast. She was also a daring skier, which is why I only skied with her once.
Louise loved the arts, music, and shopping, training me in recreational shopping shortly after we moved to the US.
It is so difficult to part with a close friend... after losing another. I am heartbroken but feel grateful for all the happy memories we made. Rest in peace, Louise.

I am beyond sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Louise. Never knew her name was Margaret! Maybe that´s why I was named Margaret and she was my godmother. Aunt Louise was larger than life. She led a life filled with fun and adventure. I send my thoughts and hugs to Ted and Geoff and their family´s.

I still live 3 houses up from where the Houghtons lived in San Rafael CA.
They were part of our neighbor families group when we all had young children and socialized together.
I last saw Louise at a party I gave for the 50th Anniversary of our neighborhood and invited original owners.
I remember discussing the palm tree that they had planted in their backyard and Louise telling me 'that it was shorter than Geoff '.
The photo is in case Geoff hasn't seen it lately - I doubt he has grown as much!
Another memory of Louise was when she told us that she was taking an upholstery class and showed us how she was re-upholstering her family couch right there in the family room!
She was always a very upbeat and interesting person!
