MARCIA HILL Obituary

Marcia Hill August 5, 1935 - June 20, 2012 Marcia Hill passed away peacefully in her home this Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Marcia, daughter to Judge Philip and Pauline Toomin, and sister to Judge Michael Toomin, was born in Chicago. After graduating from New Trier High School, she continued her education at the University of Arizona and then Northwestern, followed by a stint at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and attending a year abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris. Her return to Chicago coincided with her father's appointment as Associate Justice of the High Court of the Trust Territory of the Pacific by President Eisenhower. She joined her family on the island of Truk in Micronesia where she resided for the next two years. During that time, she would often accompany her father to the outer islands for his duties in the local courts. There she would be met with great curiosity, as there were times when she was the first American woman to ever set foot on the island. Marcia met and married her husband James R Hill in 1960 at the Glencoe Union Church in suburban Chicago and quickly moved to San Francisco where she lived for the next 52 years. During that time, she raised two boys, Jim and Scott and co-founded a public relations firm with her friend Linda Sesnon. Together they worked on many projects, such as John Tunney's Senate bid and Eugene McCarthy's Presidential campaign. Despite her forays into professional life, Marcia's true love was acting. She was a proud member of the Children's Theatre Associates of San Francisco for over 50 years. Not only did she enjoy the company of many of her closest friends for those numerous years, but she also dazzled young and old alike with her roles as a princess, witch, cat, worm, goop and countless other parts. A true lover of the Arts, Marcia will be missed by the many organizations and charities for which she worked and supported. She was tireless in her efforts to support others, found no job too difficult to attempt, and no stunt too outlandish to try. Her family would like to thank the many people who called Marcia "friend" over the years, as well as the doctors and staff who took care of her during her fight. Your support, love and friendship are greatly appreciated. Marcia is survived by her brother, Judge Michael P Toomin of Chicago, her sons Jim and Scott, her daughter-in-law Chris, and her grandchildren Tyler, Alex, Mackie and T.J. A celebration to remember Marcia's life will be announced at a future date. Interment will be in the Memorial Garden of the Glencoe Union Church in Glencoe, Illinois.
