1916 – 2016

Margaret was born in Ukiah, CA on April 27, 1916 to Franz and Jennie Grothe. She was raised at Blue Rock in Bell Springs, CA. Margaret attended school in Ukiah. She graduated from San Jose State in 1938 with her degree in Elementary Education. Her first teaching job was in King City. She taught at Baywood School in San Mateo and Nesbit School in Belmont. Her career spanned 38 years. Margaret was passionate about the education of children.

During retirement she enjoyed volunteer tutoring, hand bell choir, book groups, Retired Teacher Association meetings and their scholarship committee, and her Circle Friends at Hillsdale Methodist Church. She loved to garden and was a voracious reader.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Edward Crane, her son Richard Crane and her two sisters Carol Kesey and Connie Weaver. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Del Bono, grandchildren John Del Bono (Rebecca), Jeffrey Del Bono, Michael Del Bono (Jackie), Jill Crane, nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her brother Daniel Grothe.

A private burial was held on December 26th at Skylawn Memorial Park. A memorial service will take place at 11am on January 14, 2017 at Hillsdale Methodist Church, 36th and Hacienda, San Mateo. Lunch will follow.

Margaret's family would like to thank her long term caregivers Esmerelda Carmona, Mariai and Melissa Holitzer and Miryam Osorio. Because of their loving care and compassion she was able to pass from this world in her own home with her loved ones tending to her. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer a donation to the Tutor Learning Center at the above Hillsdale Methodist Church.

We will miss Margaret's smile and her positive spirit.
