Margaret Estell Obituary

Margaret Ann Beer (Margey) Estell Formerly of San Mateo, died September 10 under hospice care at Silverado Center of Belmont, CA, after a long battle with Pick's Disease. She was born July 6th, 1951 to Charles and Elma Beer of Larned, KS. The family moved to Las Cruces, NM, in 1957. In Las Cruces, Margey graduated from Mayfield High School and New Mexico State University, with a B.S. in education. She loved music, education, art and mathematics. She was an accomplished clarinetist and vocalist, and earned a music scholarship to NMSU. She married David Estell in 1970, and they attended graduate school at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN. There she studied computer programming, and was hired as a programmer analyst for the University in the early 1970s, where she wrote an early relational data base program that is still used by several universities. In 1978, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, and worked as a senior programmer / analyst for Four Phase Systems (now Motorola) and Lockheed. The couple's two children, Amanda and William, were born at Stanford Hospital. After William was born, Margey devoted her time to the children and the Belmont School District. She volunteered at Nesbitt Elementary and Ralston Middle School, and was president of the Nesbitt PTA from 1992-1994. In 1995 she was elected to the Belmont School District Board of Trustees, and she served until 1999. During this time, she was also an active member of Hillsdale United Methodist Church, serving as officer in several organizations, and as a member of the choir. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 18, at 4:00 PM, at Hillsdale United Methodist Church, 303 36th Ave, San Mateo, CA 94403. Donations can be made to the Margey Estell Memorial Fund at Hillsdale United Methodist Church. www.crippenflynn.com

At the date of my birth in 1951, my name was Linda Carr. I came to know Margaret Anne when we were both just 4 years old. She lived less than a block away. It became one of my most special childhood memories. It seemed we were inseperable, and at 6 years old, I was devestated as a child to learn that they were moving Los Cruces, N.M. Due to her Dad's allergies. But I knew it was necessay. We went to Los Cruses to visit, and so many times she came back to Larned and stayed with the Row's. We had so much fun, and shared Christmas gifts, phone calls gallore. We drifted apart after our graduation's, and I meant to call when her and David moved to Ca. I did call her though, and she called me, but things change when you begin a family. I wiil always cherish my time with her. I know she is in heaven, and I know she knows how I feel. A memory I will never forget. XO

I met Margey when she pledged Chi Omega Sorority at NMSU. She was always a loving, caring, genuine and happy sister. She was loved and cared for by all of our Sisters during our years together. I enjoyed the times we would visit after our college years ended although I had not seen her in many years.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of grief. May God Bless.

Dear Mr. Beer, David and children,
Margy was my soulmate during my years working for her folks at Dairy Queen. Even though we were high school rivals, we enjoyed our times at work and afterward with a movie and drive to Shirley's. Margy was a great friend who helped me with my shyness. When the time came to buy a car with my earnings, I was glad to get a sporty looking red Opel Kadet after being inspired by the Beer's Opel. Our prayers are with you all.

Dear Mr. Beer and Family,
My children and I are so very sorry for your loss. You all will be in our thoughts and Prayers. I will never forget the family bond you, Mrs. Beer and Margey shared with my sisters and I as we were growing up across the street from you. I think of you often. May God give all of you peace during this difficult time. I'm sure Margey is ringing her bells in heaven. God Bless.

Dear Mr Beer, David and Children,

I was so sorry to learn of Margee's passing. I knew her as as a band student in junior high school and she was a wonderful young lady, a trait which she carried with her all her life. We are all fortunate to be able to hold her memory in our hearts.

Dear David, and Amanda, William and Mr. Beer,

I was so very sorry to hear of Margey's passing; my condolences for your loss. Certainly the last years have been very difficult for you all, but I will always think of her as a bright shining star, full of life. I treasure my memories of our Mayfield High School years together as fellow clarinetists, working on staging The Ice Princess for our Honor's English project, and generally being good friends while trying to survive the teenage years. I smile when I think of Margey's bravery and patience in teaching me how to drive a stick shift in the Beer's Opel that came from Germany – the speedometer was marked in kilometers! We had so many wonderful times together, and I am grateful to have known her. This world is diminished by Margey’s departure. Be comforted knowing that she touched many lives in a positive way and her spirit lives on. Godspeed my friend.

Dear Uncle Charles, David and family. My thoughts are with you in this time of transition. Cousin Margey and David visited me in Telluride, CO several years ago. What a nice visit we had. I hadn't seen Margey for at least 20 years.
May she rest iin peace.
