Marie DeMartini Obituary

Marie DeMartini
June 18, 1932 - September 9, 2021
Marie passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 9, 2021 at the age of 89 years old. She was a long time San Franciscan who moved from San Jose to live in the North Beach District of this great city at a very young age. Her parents were Salvatore and Josephine Russo and her brother was Natale Russo. She attended Sarah B. Cooper Elementary, John Hancock Middle and Galileo High School. In 1955, she married George DeMartini and their marriage lasted 59 years until his passing. Together they had four boys, Ronald (Barbara), Richard (Elaine), Robert and Randal (Catrina) within just over five years and no twins. Let's just say, Marie had her hands full not only raising her sons but her biggest child, husband George! She worked at the Bank of America for over thirty years. Upon her retirement from the bank, she went to work part time for Francis Ford Coppola becoming his personal book keeper. Not only did that job become full time but it too, lasted thirty years until her death.
Marie has seven grandchildren; Craig (Katie), Sabrina (Kyle), Jeffrey (Emily), Robyn (Daniel), Kaytie, Dante and Nicholas and seven great grandchildren; Mark, Matthew, Olivia, George, Camila, Jackson and Holly all of whom she loved very much.
She became a member of the Salesian Boys' & Girls' Club's Board of Directors in 1995 and thoroughly enjoyed her time as a Board member and lifetime supporter of the Club. In 1997, she was honored with the "Woman of the Year' award for all her service to the children of this organization. This is the youth facility her boys attended while both parents were working. She always said, "If it wasn't for the Salesian Boys' Club, I don't know what we would have done!"

Her favorite activities included her love for art, vacationing all over the world, the San Francisco 49ers, Giants and Warriors, cooking and the enjoyment of being with so many family and friends. Marie had a wonderful life growing up first in San Francisco and then in Marin County where the DeMartini's moved to in 1989. She was always smiling, had a great demeanor and outlook on life. She was a "SPECIAL" lady who touched so many lives and will be sorrowfully missed. We just ask that everyone cherish their fond memories with such a beautiful, remarkable woman.

All family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 660 Filbert St., San Francisco, CA 94133.

Randy, Robby and family,

Dino at Victoria pastry told me of your mother´s passing. I feel terrible. I know you are devastated. I remember when Victoria´s was on Vallejo street your dad, George, would sit at one table and two tables over Marie would sit. George would read the paper and tell Marie what they wrote about the Giants or niners. I thought that´s the life. May you all have a long and happy life as they did and God bless all the Demartinis.

Randi, Robby and family,

I just arrived in San Francisco after a nearly 2 year hiatus and learned from Dino at Victoria pastry that your mother passed away. I feel terrible and know how devastated you are. I recall at Victoria´s when it was on Vallejo your dad George would sit at one table and your mother would sit two tables away at another table. George would read the paper and tell Marie what the paper said about the Giants or the Niners. They were always there during the week days and when I saw them I thought that´s the life.

May you all have long and happy lives too,

Tom Simundich,

Marie was one in a million! Whenever we came up for the crab feed at the church, she'd smile, give us a kiss and hug. We are so blessed to have known her many years and had a fun time on the cruise with her and George. They are now together for eternity! We miss you Marie and will always remember you with a big smile and loving heart!
