Marie Lofholm Obituary

Marie Hildebrand Lofholm Marie Lofholm was born June 25, 1908 in Oakland, CA, to Frederick J. Hildebrand and Ann Schimpf Hildebrand. Her parents met in Golden Gate Park after the 1906 Earthquake. She died at Siena Care Center in Auburn, CA, on February 6, 2008 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lofholm, Sr. (1951); her parents, Fred and Ann, and four younger brothers, Nielsen, Donald, Charles and Howard. She is survived by her two children, Paul Lofholm (Rebecca) of Kentfield, CA, and Sharon Johnson (Jeffrey) of Newcastle, CA; six grandchildren, Kim Van Ysseldyk, Eric Lofholm, Nicole Lofholm, Brigette Lofholm, Andrew Lofholm, and Jeremy Johnson. She has five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She enjoyed a special relationship with Diana and Steve Jordan who visited with her frequently. She graduated from Piedmont High School, then Samuel Merritt Hospital School of Nursing in 1931. As an RN she worked at Merritt Hospital until her marriage to Paul W. Lofholm in 1939. She raised two children and when they went off to college, she returned to practice as a nurse for Dr. Kirk in Oakland where she worked for another 10 years. She was an active member and leader in the Merritt Alumni Association, Cinderella Chapter of the Children's Home Society, Crocker Highlands PTA, American Red Cross, and Merritt Hospital Volunteers. She resided in Oakland for over 90 years, living independently and driving until age 95. She moved to Casa de Santa Fe in Rocklin, CA, in 2005. She loved all children, family and friends. She made holidays special with her gift for cooking, decorating, and entertaining, and she never forgot a birthday or other special day. As a loving and caring person, she was a true nurse to all who knew her. She was a friend to many and helped anyone who crossed her path. She encouraged all to try new things, and test their limits. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, Alaska, Mexico, and Hawaii and did so well into her 90s. She was an independent and proud person who enjoyed a wonderful and full life; she made the best of what life dealt her and maintained a very positive spirit. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16th, 2pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 114 Montecito Ave., Oakland, CA 94610, (510) 834-4314. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Sharon,
I just picked up your email. I am so sorry to hear about you mom. She was truly a special lady and I am glad to have met her. I always enjoyed talking with her and marvel at her sharp memory. My most memorable moment with her was at the Christmas party at your house when I took the gift that she wanted but later gave it to her. She will truly be missed. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Sharon and family,
What a grand lady!
Marie was like a Mother to many of us that went to SMH in the 60's!
She always had a twinkle in her eye, a fun story to tell but most of all she was supportive to us all through nursing school.

I shall alway remember her special giggle with all the stories that Sharon told on us all! AND marie never giving up on those high heels!

Her life shall live on in all she touched!
It has been a wonderful experience knowing Marie. She will be missed.

I managed Rose Park Terrace where Marie lived for many years. I had the honor of knowing Marie and her family for the seven years I was in residence there.

God Bless Marie and her heels!

What a celebration of a life lived to it's fullest.

I had the opportunity to meet Marie several years ago at Lake Tahoe. She was in her late 80's at the time--what a nice person, so interested in others and what they liked. An inspiration to all that they can have a great quality of life at any age. It was a pleasure to have the chance to meet such a special lady.
