Mark Hendrix Obituary

Mark W. Hendrix

Mark W. Hendrix died November 13th, 2017 in Berkeley, California, from complications of pancreatic cancer. He was 56.

Mark was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Thomas R. Hendrix and Sonia A. Hendrix. He graduated from UCLA in 1983 and the Hastings School of Law in 2013. Mark was a writer, political activist, and exhibiting visual artist in Los Angeles and for the last 23 years in the Bay area.

Mark never lost his love of art, music, and performance, reading and exhibiting his own work at various Bay area venues, performing in local theatre. He worked as a counselor, trainer, and educator for a variety of groups that serve the disability community. Most importantly, Mark was a fierce advocate, a staunch and loyal friend, and a beloved brother with an impish smile and a wry sense of humor.

Mark is survived by his sisters, Carla and Ingrid Hendrix, his brothers and sisters-in-law Eric and Jeanne Hendrix, and Paul and Jules Hendrix. The family would like to thank his kind and remarkable caregivers for their many years of dedicated and loving assistance.

Donations to celebrate his life and his legacy may be made to the Easy Does It Emergency Services of Berkeley, California (http://www.easydoesitservices.org). A private, family celebration of Mark's life will be held at a future date.

I went to college with Mark in the early-80s, and will always remember his dry sense of humor as well as his courage in facing his many challenges. Although his body didn't work as well as it could have, he had a very keen mind and a wicked intelligence. I recall spending many hours talking with him about music and the experiences we had up to that point in both of our then-young lives. Godspeed, Mimsy. You were one unforgettable character.

Mark was a warm, intelligent, loyal, and wickedly funny man, whom I was privileged to share a friendship with from our college days, into our fifties. I always respected the self-discipline and inner drive that allowed him to live longer and more fully than he'd been expected to, and have many fond memories of the times we spent together. Rest in peace, Mark.

I am very sorry for your loss, loosing a loved one is truly a heartbreaking experience, but its uplifting to know that God promises us in Isaiah 65:17 a near future in which not only wont we feel the pain of loosing a loved one anymore but we wont even remember how it felt. Our pain will be erased and we will be happy once again.
