Mary Cafferata Obituary

Mary Ann Cafferata San Francisco Native Oct. 6, 1953- Jan. 20, 2010 Mary lost her 15 month battle with cancer. She put up a great fight. Those that die with the most cars wins, well mary didn't have the most possessions but she died with the most and the best of friends. You're the winner Mary. She was the one and only daughter of Emil and Marge Cafferata who preceded her in death. She was the little sister of Emil (Renee) and the big sister of Leon Cafferata. Mary was Auntie to Marcel, Dino, Chantelle and Nick Cafferata, who adored her. She is survived by her cousin Judy Borelli who was like a big sister to Mary, and Judy's husband Hank Maskowski and Judy's brother Emilio Borelli. She is also survived by her wonderful, favorite (like second parents) aunt and uncle Lillian and Vince Borelli. She leaves her wonderful longtime companion of 10 years, Al Luenow and his adult children, Sarah (Chris)Floyd and their sons, Tyler and Brian Luenow. She enjoyed her life with Al. He was there for her until the end. Mary was a very popular girl, full of love, fun, generosity and hope. She leaves behind many friends she's held dear since kindergarten. She also enjoyed her retail therapy and her prime rib dinners at Broadway Prime Rib in Burlingame. Mary is an alumni of Corpus Christi and St. John Ursuline High. Mary became a meter maid at 21. She later got a job in the Dept. of Parking and Traffic and S.F. Police Dept. She loved her job with San Francisco's finest and enjoyed much camaraderie. She made many friends and was famous as "the party planner" with the best party favors. Mary was about to retire after a 30 year career this February. Mary will surely be missed by her many friends and her loving and devoted family. We love you Mary. If only... Mary and her family would especially like to thank Comfort Care and the very caring, loving staff on the 7th floor of Mills Peninsula Hospital and Mills Peninsula Skilled Nursing Facility on Trousdale, Burlingame. Friends may visit Monday from 4pm and are invited to attend the Vigil Service Monday at 7pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City. The Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30am at Corpus Christi Church, 62 Santa Rosa Ave, SF. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity.

To see her face, her smile, knowing the kindness she had within her reminds me the loss our world suffered when she left us, but that reminder also gives me joy knowing that I knew her as a friend.

My husband and I both worked with Mary at the Department of Parking and Traffic. Mary was a joy to know, a friend you could rely and lean on, and had a heart bigger than she was. She never saw a party that she didn't enjoy. or enrich with her special personality. Her life added so much to all of us that knew her. Our deepest sympathy to all that loved her.

To the family and friends of MARY,
I stayed in Mary's appt. when I needed a place to stay,Most gracious; that was when I learned she walked in her sleep and ate ice cream, only knowing because the carton was empty in the a.m.
