Mary Frances Egan was born on September 17, 1953, in San Francisco's Bernal Heights neighborhood. She was the fifth of six children born to Mary Foy and was deeply loved by her
family. Mary was beautiful, talented, kind, funny, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. A proud San Franciscan, Mary graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy. She went on to earn her Associate in Science degree from City College of San Francisco, as well as her certification as a medical assistant from Bryman Paramedical School. Mary dedicated over thirty years to working in healthcare-first as a medical assistant and later as a medical billing specialist-and was a proud member of SEIU. Mary was a gifted actress and lifelong lover of the arts. She met her husband, Denis Egan, while performing in an improv troupe in the 1970s. She spent much of her free time exploring San Francisco's art museums, attending plays, and sharing her passion for art in all its forms. She passed that love on to her daughters and to anyone fortunate enough to spend time with her. Mary was truly hilarious, with a silly, sweet, and wonderfully unique sense of humor that brought joy to her family, friends, and strangers she would meet on the street. Mary was a friend of Bill W. and gave all her heart to supporting those who struggle with addiction. Mary had a lifelong passion for learning. Recently, she re-enrolled at City College of San Francisco and was completing her first semester. She was planning her classes for 2026, excited to continue her studies. Mary is survived by her husband, Denis Egan; her children, Colleen Egan (Casey Fern) and Kathleen Abinante (Jonathan Abinante); her sister, Cathy Pantazy; her brothers, Allen and Edward Foy; and her brother-in-law, John Pantazy. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren-Owen, Maeve, and Maria-who brought immeasurable joy and light into her life. Mary passed away suddenly on the morning of November 20, 2025. Her warmth, humor, creativity, and unwavering love will be forever remembered by the many people whose lives she touched. A memorial to celebrate Mary's beautiful life will take place on Sunday, December 14th, from 12:00–4:00 PM at Duggan's Serra Mortuary. All are welcome.
