Mary Margaret Scribner
August 19, 1938 - February 2, 2022
Mary Margaret (also known by family and friends as "MeMi" and "Scrib") was born August 19, 1938, in Denver, Colorado to Clifford Stanley Scribner and Muriel L. Johnstone Scribner who were living in Georgetown, CO at the time. Clifford was a Civil Engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation.
Living in the Grand Lake area with heavy snows, Mary Margaret learned to ski very early and became an expert snow skier. Scrib attended University of Colorado, Boulder, where she was a member and president of Alpha Delta Pi. She was an avid bridge player throughout her life and enjoyed playing with her friends at school. Continuing her love of skiing, Scrib joined the National Ski Patrol and won many competitions. (In her later years, she would relish outskiing the unsuspecting younger skiers).
Moving to New York City directly after graduating in the summer of 1959, she joined a small company, as an accountant. Eventually, she started her own business doing the books and tax returns for several clients and supported herself in this way throughout her life. Scrib was a member of the NYC Chapter of the American Youth Hostels who sponsored inexpensive weekend bus trips to New England ski slopes. She made several friends during those trips she took almost every winter weekend in the decade of the sixties. Scrib enjoyed traveling to Europe on her vacations. She accompanied friends on a world tour and especially relished exploring Pakistan.
Eventually residing in a Greenwich village studio, Scrib enjoyed attending the symphony and opera and attended many of Joan Sutherland's performances as well as other classical and jazz concerts. She also joined the Manhattan chapter of ASWA, (American Society of Women Accountants). Scrib had a lifelong love of Giraffes and birds, and she became an avid bird watcher and started her collection of wooden decoys and folk art.
Reuniting with her college friend, Sudi Sims, the two moved West to Dana Point, CA where they enjoyed sailing and warm weather. Ultimately, the two settled in Berkeley, CA where they enjoyed the cultural offerings of the East Bay and San Francisco. Following Sudi's death, Scrib moved to Petaluma to be closer to her Goddaughter, Lynne Bender, and her family until she passed away peacefully February 2, 2022.
Mary Margaret is survived by her sister Ann Scribner Farson of Albuquerque, NM; niece Julie Farson Craig, nephew, James (Jim) Farson, and great niece, Kayla Farson.
