Meryl Morena Obituary

Meryl G. Morena Nov. 22, 1916 - Dec. 12, 2010 Meryl Morena, 94, a lifetime resident of Marin County passed away peacefully on December 12, 2010 after a brief illness at Marin General Hospital. Meryl was born November 22, 1916 in San Francisco, She was the child of Blanche and Maxwell Jones and sister to Jan Denton. Meryl was preceded in death by her loving husband Gino Morena. Meryl and Gino met in New York City and were married for 61 years. Meryl is survived by her children Roselinda Wildhaber(Vern) of Novato, Ca, Rex Morena(Maria) of Alamo, Ca, Gina Morena of Kentfield, Ca, and Maria Chapman of Larkspur, Ca. She will be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren, Barbara Walsh of Danville, Ca, Robert Ashoff of El Dorado, Ca, Ashley Chapman of Los Angeles, Ca, Mark Chapman of Larkspur, Ca, Gino Morena of Alamo, Ca Elliott Chapman of Larkspur, Ca, Adrianna Morena of Alamo, Ca. Meryl and Gino together built the business of Gino Morena Enterprises which contracts barber and beauty salons for the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps throughout the United States and Guam. Meryl and Gino traveled extensively and made many friends throughout the world. One of their favorite places was Hong Kong. Meryl and Gino attended the inaugurations of President Ronald Reagan and President George H.W. Bush, respectively. They also attended the Presidential dinner for President Ronald Reagan at the White House. As a young woman, Meryl attended Tamalpais High School, University of California at Berkeley, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she trained to be an opera Singer. She sang soprano for the New York Metropolitan of Music and the San Francisco opera companies. Her Opera performances included Carmen, The Barber of Seville, Aida, Die Fledermaus, Tosca, La Traviata, as well as other notable opera's. She also excelled in playing the piano and the violin. Meryl was a board member of the Marin Symphony Association and the Marin Cancer Society. Additionally, Meryl enjoyed the game of tennis and played in many tournaments as a Member of the Rafael racquet club. Meryl had a love for all animals and was a great support for animals in need. Her dogs, Gucci, Daisy, Sophie, and Fluffy will miss her greatly. Her caregivers Angelica, Blanca, Mayra, Hilda, Roselinda, Beatrice, and Cesar took such excellent care of her and loved her greatly. The family thanks them for their devotion. Services will be held Monday, December 20th 11AM at Monte's Chapel of The Hills 330 Redhill Avenue in San Anselmo, Ca 94960. In Lieu of flowers the family would like to Request donations to the Marin Humane Society.
