Michael Dugger Obituary

Michael Coy Dugger
05/31/1961 - 12/26/2024
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden departure of our dear friend, Coy Dugger, who passed away peacefully at home, in the presence of his beloved dog, Rocky.
Coy moved from Ohio to San Francisco in the early 1980s, where he quickly fell in love with the city's vibrant culture and unique lifestyle. It was here that he built a life full of meaningful connections, both with people and with animals.
During his time in San Francisco, Coy worked in the Clinical Lab at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), where he met lifelong friends who cherished his warmth, loyalty, kindness, and sense of humor. These friendships, many of which lasted decades, are a testament to the deep bonds he formed with those around him.
Coy completed his Marriage and Family Therapy degree and became a fully licensed therapist in 2012. His journey into the field of therapy was deeply personal, driven by a desire to heal his own sense of well-being and to help others navigate and heal from trauma. Through his engagement with the 12-step program he came to believe in his own worthiness of love and guidance from a higher power. This transformative experience fueled his compassionate approach to helping others, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with.
Coy had a profound love for animals, especially his beloved dogs and birds, who were an integral part of his life. His devotion to them was unwavering, and he found comfort, joy, and companionship in their presence.
Coy is survived by his loving mother, Linda (late Butch) Bernett; his siblings, Tina (Stephen) Mills, Gina McKinney, and Ronald Bernett; and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Coy Dugger, and his brother, Billy George Dugger.
Coy's memory will live on through his friends, family, and the many lives he touched with his gentle spirit, his humor, and his compassion. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. In honoring his memory, Coy would wish for us all to be kind and generous-to both friends and strangers alike-and especially to extend kindness to the animals who cross our paths.

We were neighbors and shared many conversations. He left us too early. Rest in peace. See you on the other side.
