Nancy Dunn Obituary

Nancy Batsford DunnAt rest in San Francisco, Monday, May 26th, 2014. Born in Oakland, California, Nancy (Nanc) Batsford Dunn succumbed to a long illness. Nancy is survived by her husband of 33 years, Charles (Al) Dunn, daughter, Shelley Baranchuk, son-in-law, Oscar Baranchuk, daughter, Jill Perez, son-in-law, Joe Perez, grandchildren, Joe Batsford, Ginger Perez and Joaquin Baranchuk. Born in 1939 to parents Charles and Doris Schlosser, Nancy spent her childhood growing up in Oakland, California. Nancy attended Marylrose Grammar School and Piedmont High School. Nancy then went on to San Jose State University where she received a bachelor's degree in education and was president of her sorority (AOII) in 1959. After graduation, Nancy taught second grade at Oak Grove Elementary School in San Jose. It was during this time that Nancy met her first husband, Sterling Batsford. Once married, Nancy retired from teaching to devote her time to her husband and two daughters. Upon Sterling's early death in 1977, Nancy returned to work at the family business (Clervi Marble Company). Nancy became president of the company soon after and continued to work and preside over the company until 2009. In 1980, Nancy met and married her loving husband Al. Nancy and Al had a long and happy union in which they were able to have many adventures traveling near and far and raising their family together. Nancy's pride and joy was her family and friends. Although she struggled with her health in the last decade, Nancy's sheer will, determination and strength continue to inspire and awe all those who knew and loved her. Goodbye to an amazing and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral Service on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 4pm at Redwood Chapel, 847 Woodside Road, Redwood City, CA 94061 with Graveside Service on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 11am at Alta Mesa Memorial Park, 695 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto. Our deepest sympathies for your loss. Nancy was so kind to me when I had the chance to meet her at the marble shop. My grandfather was John Clervi, the original founder of Clervi Marble Company. For my mom Joan's 80th birthday in 2008 I contacted Nancy to take a tour of the shop and take photos. Nancy generously provided me with Clervi Marble tee shirts for me and my siblings. We surprised Mom by wearing them at a family gathering. It was such a kind and thoughtful gesture. I will always remember Nancy and her loving care of my family heritage.
With sympathy,
Jillian Gabrielli for Joan Clervi and family
