Nathaniel Flynn Obituary

Nathaniel Edward Flynn

Was born December 20, 1931 during the Great Depression. He was raised on 24th St. in San Francisco by his parents John and Mary Flynn with his older brother John Flynn. Working in the family grocery store and at his parent's apartments is where he was taught his family values of honesty, courage, love of God and country and the fearless resourcefulness to do whatever he could achieve. He passed peacefully at age 84.
Nathaniel, Nathan, also known as Nat, served as a US Navy Officer and graduated from Stanford University as a Chemical Engineer. He worked 33 years with the San Francisco Air Pollution District as an Engineer and Supervisor.
At the age of 36 Nathaniel married and began a family that included 5 children named after either Biblical origin or family ancestry. He advocated strongly that his children receive and obtain quality educations. His strong belief led him to purchase and manage his own apartments. This combined with his unrelenting hard work ultimately paid for his children's' education. A quote from Nathaniel, "Math and science is money in the bank."
Being an engineer and successful business man, Nathaniel also had many hobbies including a love for Lawrence Welk & Opera music, old westerns, and restoring classic Cadillacs. He had a Contractor's license and was a craftsman who could fix just about anything he got his hands on. He even obtained patents for some of his inventions early on in his career.
Nathaniel E. Flynn is survived by his 5 children, Mark, Nora, Natalie, James, and Dorothea, and by his grandchildren Abigail April and Samuel Nathan and his Sister-in-law Mary Stella Flynn, nephew John Flynn and niece Francesca Flynn.
His steadfast beliefs and sense of humor will be missed by all.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 1/22/2016 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1721 Hillside Dr. at Cabrillo, Burlingame. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1500 Mission Road Colma.

To Mr. Flynns Family,

So very sorry for your loss. Mr. Flynn was always ready with a joke and good time moment as James & I hung out after school, for many, many, many years. Being able to spend time in the Flynn family home thanks to James & Mr Flynn's affections was solice for me during my youth. Thank you Mr Flynn & James for your family's support.

Sincerest respects,
Bobby Davenport

To the family of Nat Flynn,

Nat and Jack' s father, John Flynn, was my father, Patrick O'Grady's, cousin, first or second, I'm afraid I don't remember. We lived on 23rd Street and John and Maizie, and Jack and Nat, were very good family friends. We went to each others weddings, etc., and I remember going to Nat's house and watching Nat and Jack do the Irish step dances.

We now live in Burlingame also, and our daughter, Katie, went to Our Lady of Angels with one of Nat's sons. I am so very sorry we did not see the notice until this morning and we are out of town. We would definitely have paid our respects to Nat's family.

God Bless you all.
