Oleg Obuhoff Obituary

Dr. Oleg Obuhoff
March 18,1927-December 23, 2020
A native and lifelong resident of San Francisco, Olie was born on March 18, 1927 at Mount Zion Hospital and died at home surrounded by family on December 23, 2020. He was the only child of Russian immigrants, Nickolas and Olga Obuhoff. A graduate of George Washington High School ('45), he was immediately drafted into the US Marine Corps Officer Training program, stationed in San Francisco at the Headquarters Battalion. Following his military service in 1946, he attended UC Berkeley, where he took advantage of the athletic program, playing football as one of Pappy's Boys and playing and coaching rugby under the auspices and tutelage of Doc Hudson. Graduating from Cal in 1950, Olie entered The College of Physicians and Surgeons School of Dentistry (The Art Dugoni School of Dentistry/UOP) in 1954. Olie spent his Dental School summers working as a lifeguard at Russian River resorts, where he met his adoring wife of 66 years, Ruth Conroy, another native San Franciscan. When he graduated from Dental School, he joined the USAF as a Captain, and was stationed in England for two years at a medical clinic before returning to California and going into private practice for nearly 40 years in Pacifica, CA. He is survived by his wife Ruth; children Matthew Obuhoff, Nicole Prieto (Victor) and five grandchildren. His son, Oleg, Jr. predeceased him in 1989.

An avid outdoorsman, Olie loved to ski, play tennis, swim, and boat at his beloved Lake Tahoe. He was a member of the Olympic Club, as well as many professional organizations. His leadership, keen intelligence, kindness, good humor, and love will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of his company.

A donation in his honor would be welcomed at The Myelodysplastic Foundation (www.mds-foundation.org) or Doctors Without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org)

My mom and dad (Sid and Marion Francis) met Oleg and Ruth when they were both in Dental School together. I remember visiting them in Tahoe when I was young. My sister and I chatted with Oleg at the boat show in Carnelian Bay a few years back and he was as nice and gracious as I remembered. We lost our mom Marion on December 13th at 93 years old. I'm sure they are up there having a good chat. So sorry for your loss. Lori & Lisa.

Dr. Obuhoff was a wonderful man and a close friend of our family. We spent many memorable skiing vacations at the Obuhoff cabin in Squaw Valley in the 1960s, and visited their family home often in San Francisco. Dr. Obuhoff was our family Dentist, and a generous and loving friend. My sincere condolences to Ruth, Matthew, and Nicole.
