Patricia Carlson Obituary

Patricia H. Carlson

October 16, 1928 - January 28, 2017

Patricia H. Carlson of San Rafael, CA left us on Saturday, January 28th, 2017. She had lived with congestive heart failure for a long time.

Patricia Lou Hancock was born October 16th, 1928 to Maryon and Charles Hancock in Kellogg, Idaho. She was the eldest of three children.

The family lived in various places in the Northwest and settled in Daly City, CA in the 1940s. Patricia graduated from Jefferson Union High School in 1946. She worked in San Francisco as an executive secretary at The Great American Insurance Company.

Patricia's first marriage to Lynn Jones ended when Lynn died in 1953.

She met Kenneth Carlson in 1955. They wed in 1957 and raised two children, Dennis and Pamela. The Carlsons lived in San Francisco, Sausalito, Mill Valley, Sacramento, Oakdale, Mill Valley and Petaluma before Patricia settled in San Rafael. In San Francisco the Carlsons were members of the Golden Gate Yacht Club. While they lived in Oakdale, they enjoyed Monday night bowling in Modesto, and were members of the Oakdale Golf & Country Club. Kenneth was a Pearl Harbor survivor, and he and Patricia traveled to several ship reunions around the country in later years.

Patricia enjoyed living in Marin, near her extended family and many close friends. She was a longtime fan of the San Francisco Giants. She recounted the thrill of the ticker tape parade the day the Giants were welcomed to SF with delight. She loved Frank Sinatra, old films (especially Westerns), new films without too many swear words, keeping in touch with friends and family, tending plants and feeding hummingbirds, shopping and enjoying the occasional scotch and soda. She was happy to travel, whether it was a cruise to Alaska, a visit to family in Montana or just a day trip to Sonoma or San Francisco. She was always curious and always found ways to be helpful. She baked the best cookies.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dennis, her sister Sharon and her husband Kenneth.

She is survived by her stepson Donald Carlson, his wife Lorraine and her grandchildren Michelle and Michael of Galston, NSW, Australia; her son Dennis Carlson of Helena, MT, grandchildren Matthew and Renee Carlson of Bozeman, MT; her daughter Pamela Carlson of Greenbrae, CA and her Galliani and Faulk cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the charity of your choice.

No public service is planned. Instead Mom said, "Oh, just have a big party."

Mom, we love you and miss you and thank you for everything you did for us.

Be at peace.
