Patricia Rogers Obituary

Patricia Rogers
07/24/1941 - 12/17/2024
Patricia (Pat) Hughes Rogers, loving wife of 62 years, beloved mother and grandmother, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024. She is survived by her devoted husband, James; her children and their spouses Kathleen (Mark) and Peter (Julie); and her grandchildren Samantha, Christopher, Jeremiah, and Nathan.
Pat was a lifelong caregiver who left a strong impression with many folks with whom she crossed paths. She was born July 24, 1941 in San Francisco, and her connections to the City ran deep. She remained close to childhood friends and schoolmates, meeting for lunch, seeing exhibits at the De Young Museum, attending reunions, and enjoying the theater. The queen of the Bon Mot and the Scathing Clapback, Pat was not one to mince words. She enjoyed a good, juicy gossip session where she could impart her witty, warm, unsparingly funny words of wisdom. Pat also connected and maintained long-term relationships with the many patients, families, and colleagues she worked with in her decades-long career as an operating room nurse at Stanford hospital.
Pat was determined to explore the world, and limitations were minor inconveniences. She and Jim were a tight team on all of their adventures. Pat's boldness and curiosity fed Jim's spirit, and they shared experiences and adventures that neither of them would have enjoyed separately. Even when faced with a stage three breast cancer diagnosis in her late 50s, Pat persevered. She lived more than 30 years thumbing her nose at cancer as she and Jim traveled to India, Egypt, China, Bhutan,Thailand, South Africa, and more. Pat enjoyed plenty of local adventures as well: finding the perfect rhododendron or maple tree for the yard, exploring the Cabrillo Farmers Market, trying out new recipes, watching whales breach, and relishing a colorful sunset.
Her appetite for travel and adventure was only exceeded by her zeal for the adventures and dreams of others, particularly those of her children and grandchildren. She was thrilled when the grandkids traveled to Cuba, Ireland (long-term for Sam), Japan, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Spain, France, and Hungary. She and Jim were so pleased to host family trips to Yosemite, Hawaii, Mexico, and Alaska. She loudly cheered as she attended SO many performances and athletic matches. Ask anyone at Curves about Pat's family; they can tell you stories.
Patricia loved fiercely. She shared her strength and support with her friends and family without reservation. She would be the first to comfort us if she could. Her loss is felt deeply, but we are grateful for the time we shared with her. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat's memory can be made to bayareacancer.org.

Working with Pat at Stanford was a great experience. She was funny, smart, a solid friend, and a wonderful peer to work with. She was entertaining outside of work! May her memory be eternal. She will be missed.

I worked with Pat for many years at Stanford. She was someone you never forget, strong, kind, fun, had an opinion on everything but rational, and a great sense of humour. She was a super good OR nurse. Pat will be greatly missed.

As a fellow Operating nurse for many years it was always a pleasure to work in the same room as Pat. Always fun but skilled at her job. She shared her family highlights and travels. So fun.

So sorry for the great loss. Pat was wonderful and caring. She was an inspiration to me as a new nurse at Stanford. Her caring for patients and ease/comfortable with them was the best. She was so generous in all good things. I moved away from Bay area but enjoyed exchanging Christmas cards with her to catch up and see photos of her latest travel adventure. I will always remember her very fondly. Peace and comfort to all.

Pat brightened the room at Curves. She was always well dressed for exercising, everything matching, even her jewelry! Not to mention that she was so witty and fun; always with the wisdom of a life well-lived. I always find myself looking for her car to see if she got to Curves before me. We shared the same car mechanic who was a friend of ours besides, and she trusted him with her beautiful car. Pat, you were adored, a bright light everywhere you went! I will miss you a lot. We all will! Love, Karen

Working with Pat was always such fun. She made everything easy and fun. Irreverent and full of good jokes. It has been many, many years, but I still smile
