Patricia passed away peacefully on August 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. A native San Franciscan, Pat was born on McAllister Street to Irish immigrant parents Michael and Elizabeth McDonnell. She attended Star of the Sea Grammar School and High School, and maintained close relationships with many classmates.
On May 26, 1951 she married Robert (Bob) West (SFFD) and they honeymooned in Yellowstone National Park. They later welcomed six children to their growing family and were happily married for 28 years until his sudden passing in 1980.
Pat worked at Metropolitan Life and was a Merchant Teller for 20 years at Bank of America in Stonestown. She loved to travel, taking cruises and visiting many countries with family and friends. Her most memorable were the times she took the family to Disneyworld and to Napili Kai on Maui. She also enjoyed going to the casinos where she liked to play the slots and Black Jack.
Pat was a parishioner of St. Gabriel Parish for 60 years. She spent many years volunteering at both St. Gabriel Parish and Sacred Heart High School.
Every year she looked forward to opening up her home for her annual Christmas Party where she celebrated with numerous family and friends.
Pat is survived by her children Carol, Don (Bridget), Kathy, and Bobby (Kathy); her grandchildren Jaci, Danny, Marie (Chris), Anthony, Kerry, Robert; her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Hughes; sister-in-law Eleanor Donovan; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Bob, children Daniel and Barbara and siblings Sister Mary Geraldine McDonnell, RSM and William McDonnell.
Visitation will begin at 4:00PM on Tuesday, Sept. 4, followed by the Rosary Vigil at 7:00 at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave. Daly City. The Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 11:00 at St Gabriel Church, 2559 40th Ave. at Ulloa St. SF. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1500 Mission Rd. Colma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert West '39 Endowment Scholarship at Sacred Heart Cathedral High School, 1055 Ellis Street, San Francisco, CA 94109.
