Patrick Fergus Obituary

Patrick Joseph Fergus
January 4, 1934 - December 20, 2021
Patrick Fergus died on December 20th, 2021,with his wife by his side, at the age of 87. Born in Feenone, Co Mayo, Ireland in January 1934, he was the second of eleven children born to Thomas and Anne Fergus (née Hester). He is beloved brother of the late Jim (Eileen), late John, late Tommy, late Mary Rita (late Pat), Nancy (late Eddie), Gretta (Brendan), Willie (late Mary), Austin, Martin (Mary) and late Agnes (Mike).

Pat left Ireland at the age of 17 to work in England before immigrating to the Unites States. He initially settled in Chicago alongside his siblings and worked for UPS. Unable to take the weather, he set out to San Francisco where he met his wife, Mary (nee Harkin). They were married for 57 years and raised their family in the Sunset district. Pat worked as a carpenter and contractor. He was a charter member of the United Irish Cultural Center, long-time member of the GAA and an active parishioner at St. Cecilia's church. He enjoyed playing golf and he and Mary traveled all over the country and world visiting friends and family. He was a social man and loved his weekly card games, dinners at Marcello's, watching Gaelic football games, walks at Ocean Beach and chats with his friends.

Pat is survived by his wife Mary, and his daughters Kathleen (John) Greene, Eileen (Mark) Foti, and son Jim (Beth) Fergus. His greatest joy in his later years were his eight grandchildren - Brendan, Jackie and Katrina Foti, Erin, Pat and Sean Fergus, and Ronan and Mairead Greene. In addition to his immediate family, Pat was the beloved uncle of nieces and nephews in San Francisco, Chicago, and Ireland too numerous to name here. He is also survived by his San Francisco in-laws - the Strain clan.

His death leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those that loved him. Until we meet again, may God hold him in the palm of his hand.

The family thanks the staff of Peninsula Reflections for their unwavering care and kindness in the last weeks of his life.

Private services were held, and a memorial will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the St. Anthony's Foundation.

Sending love and hugs to all, especially to his lovely wife. I enjoyed knowing him through my Grandmother, Mary Mullins. I always appreciated the chance to babysit the kids when I was in high school. Cheers to the Irish mischief that sparkles in all.

My most sincere sympathies to Mary, Kathleen Eileen, Jimmy and the entire Fergus Family at this sad time on the loss of Pat. Pat was a social man always polite and friendly and a great neighbor. He also had a wee bit of the blarney when he met up with his countrymen especially the Kilties. May he RIP Amen

To Mary and the family, we send our heartfelt condolences for your loss of such a wonderful man. We have decades of memories of such great times shared...from first meeting Pat at Terry´s Lodge, to the uncountable Sundays golfing at Sonoma National and numerous other courses along with the `usual suspects´...to all the other events that wove in and out of our lives...he added color and commentary with his sense of humor and witty asides. Rest In Peace, friend.
