Paul Christensen Obituary
April 8, 1941 - June 17, 2016
Known as PJ growing up in the Ingleside neighborhood of SF and "Nothing But Trouble" by the sisters at St. Emydius School, Paul graduated from Aptos, Lincoln High School, SF City College, and SFSU with a BA, MA in Sociology.Paul's lifelong friendships ranged from kindergarten through his 40+ year teaching career at the College of Marin. An exceptional teacher, he had a profound influence on many of his students who ultimately became sociology majors and/or close personal friends.
True to his blue collar roots, Paul was a passionate AFT union leader admired by colleagues and credited for negotiating the best Community College contract in Northern California for full and part time instructors. He continued his reputation as a troublemaker with COM management.
Married 1969 in the Haight-Ashbury to his first and last blind date, Patricia, he will be terribly missed by his son C Von, daughter Skye (Anthony Grant), granddaughter Asha, and many close cousins. Paul was devoted to his family who were blessed with his unconditional love, strength and support.
Paul was a large man with a big appetite for good food, red wine, football, basketball, robust conversation and strong opinions. He was expert in historical and current events, and adept at predicting future consequences. The big guy also loved squeezing into his Corvette and driving fast!

As a former student of his at COM in the mid 70's he inspired his students with his extensive knowledge of history,politics, philosophy, as well as Sociology and combined those topics in a challenging format. RIP

Paul was a great conversationalist. During our time together as academic colleagues it was rare to not talk about the world at large on a daily basis. My thoughts are with his surviving family and I send them a lot of love.
