Peter Boyd Obituary

Peter Boyd Passed away suddenly on September 25 in his home with his wife Mary Beth at his side. A service for the family will be held in Bedford, Massachusetts in November. Peter enjoyed life to the fullest. He made friends wherever he went and always brought warmth and intelligence to any conversation. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. Peter was born November 30, 1958, in Lexington, MA, to Malcolm and Joan Boyd, the fifth of six children. When Peter was in the eighth grade, he took a class in metalwork and found both the skill and the passion for creating specialty equipment that continued throughout his life. He moved to Livermore, CA in 1980 where he applied his skills as a machinist, creating advanced Instrumentation for research laboratories. In 1988 he began working at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University as a safety operator. It was there that he made his life long contacts in the world of protein crystallography. He began his own business, Boyd Technologies, in 1995 and by 2009 his test chambers were being used by scientists all over the world. Peter Boyd is survived by Mary Beth, his wife and dear friend of 24 years. He is also survived by his mother, Joan Boyd, brothers Jim, Steve, Don, Eric and sister Patty, their spouses, nieces, nephews and many friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to: Pyareo Home, 333 Brook Road, Sanbornton, NH 03269.

My heartfelt condolences to Mary Beth and Peter’s family on their loss. I met Pete in third grade at Hancock school in Lexington MA. and we became close friends. Every childhood memory of mine involved Peter. He always had my back, he was always there and he was my best friend. Even after he moved to CA we spoke often and it always seemed like he was just down the street. I will deeply miss Peter.

Peter was my very good friend. We shared many great times, sailing, eating, drinking and laughing together. I am thankful that I got to have one last dinner with him the Tuesday before he died. He will be missed very much! He was an incredible human being and a great friend.
