Now, five years later, he is still ever present in my, and I'm sure many other people's, thoughts. He was a kind, sensitive, modest, beautiful man; and in his dancing, which was of the highest quality, expressed a nobility of spirit rarely achieved by others in the profession. He remains one of the few people in my life for whom I feel the deepest gratitude and the highest respect.

I will never forget Peter Nelson. He was my ballet teacher and helped me with my work more than I can say. Later, when I became a professional dancer, I felt so privileged and honored that he agreed to dance as my partner in performances of Swan Lake that I danced. Never, ever, have I known a better teacher or ballet partner than he was. He was a sensitive and highly accomplished artist and should have received, for not only his sake but that of the ballet lovers of this world, far greater recognition of his excellence than he ever did. A special, inspiring, beautiful soul -- that is who he was and will always be in the memories of those of us who knew him and the exceptional quality of his artistry.
