Recia Blumenkranz Obituary

Recia Kott Blumenkranz
11/02/1954 - 11/22/2024
Recia Kott Blumenkranz died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on November 22, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Montreal, Canada, on November 2, 1954, she was a devoted mother, wife, and daughter and an accomplished and beloved physician. After attending Brown University and completing her medical training at Stanford University and the University of Miami, she maintained a private dermatology practice in Menlo Park, California for more than thirty years, where she was known as a "doctor's doctor" and a gifted clinician who cared deeply about her patients.
She was a brilliant and compassionate person, who loved literature, music, travel, and her gardens. She approached every endeavor and relationship with diligence, humility, and kindness. Her many friends knew her to be selfless, considerate, and always there in times of need. Her family loved her beyond measure; for them, she was both a role model and a source of unstinting care and support.
She will be mourned by her husband of fifty years, Mark Blumenkranz; her children, Carla, Scott (Sydney), and Erik (Margaret); her grandchildren, Simon, Nora, Ansel, Seth, and Reece; her brother, Michael Kott (Monica); and her mother, Rhoda Davis Kott. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family will host a gathering in her memory.

Dr. Blumenkranz was my dermatologist for 20 years. I just learned of her passing today. I am beyond sad and struggling to find adequate words. But I lost my physician brother to cancer in 2021 when he was just 64, and I know that the words of his friends and patients in guest books like these brought, and still bring, me comfort. So to Dr. Blumenkranz's family, know that she was loved for being a wonderful physician, but even more for being a kind, warm, caring, and good human being. May her memory be a blessing.

I just heard of Recia's passing. She was my favorite doctor - and one of the most generous souls I have ever met. A pure Joy.

Recia was my dermatologist for over thirty years. While our relationship was almost solely professional -- save for the times I would see her around town -- it also felt personal. She was warm and always seemed happy to see me. I will miss her and send heartfelt condolences to her family.

Dr. Blumenkranz left a warm and deep impression on my heart. I missed her dearly when she retired once. I was so grateful when she came back to work, and then so devastated when she suddenly left the practice for good. Although her office respected her privacy, I worried without knowing the reasons why. Now that I know, I am bereft. I share in the universal grief of her passing. She was too young, so generous of spirit, so committed to her family and the good life she lived. I miss her voice, her smile, her kind intelligent way. She was my doctor, but her candid way of living allowed her to share her joys and ask about mine. I really miss her and I'm sending love to her family who must be still be crying. I am truly so sorry for your loss.

I occupied the office next to Recia for 20 years. One day a boil I didn’t know I had erupted on my back. I walked next door to have her take a look. She saw the problem and on the spot excised it immediately. What a sweetheart! I will always remember her! So sad.

Dr. Recia Blumenkrantz was our most remarkable & cherished dermatologist for most of her practice years. She always entered the room with a smile and a warm, kindly manner. Her way of being always put you at ease. Her sharp skills were both respected and appreciated. You felt as if she was your friend as she took a personal interest in you, your family and your life. We just loved her. We are deeply saddened by the news of her passing. May her memory be a blessing. With our love and deepest sympathy, Linda& Neill Brownstein

Dr Blumenkranz was a wonderful , kind & compassionate person. we went to het for many years, as did our children whe. we were in Menlo where her practice was. once we moved to Nevada eight years ago we still continued to see her. She even told her receptionist to schedule us at our convenience when we called as we were coming from afar. Her quick wit & cheerful demeanor was enjoyed by many. Our deep condolences to the family she adored. Recia will be greatly missed.
