Reginald Arthur James Locke

Reginald Locke Obituary

Reginald Arthur James Locke July 3, 1939 - May 2, 2007 Passed away unexpectedly at home in San Francisco at age 67. Born in Swansea, Wales he moved to the US in 1954. Married his beloved wife Paulette Locke in 1961 and moved to SF. He worked in the construction industry throughout his career leaving his mark on many SF landmarks; with his inventions he founded his own company to seismically retrofit buildings. A fountain of knowledge he was gifted in many ways, but his beautiful singing voice and eloquent recitals of poetry is what will be remembered most by all. Loving father of Morgan & Sabrina; caring brother of William Anthony, Peter (deceased), Julian and Christine; and adoring grandfather to Amelie. Also survived by many family members and friends and will be deeply and greatly missed by all. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend a memorial and celebration of his life on June 24, 2007 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Officers Club at #1 Fort Mason, Franklin at Bay St. entrance. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Salvation Army.

I planted a rose bush fo you. Roses mean love. Today i picked the first bloom. And with all the love I have in my heart, I put in a vase and placed it beside your picture. I talk to you almost every day. You have left such an emptiness in us all. But we are also filled with wonderful memories of you. Your kindness and generosity to me cannot be forgotten. The warmth of your love for us must sustain us in our constant grief. Untill we meet again in the beautiful green valley. Rest in peace, love for always.

Hi Dad, today is Oct. 15th and I think of you everyday. I miss you so much and I wish you were here. You guided me through so many situations and your guidance is so missed. I could really use some of that guidance now. I will reach deep into my heart and think hard about what advice you would give to me and I will go with that. I love you Dad.

A Toast to Mr. Locke:
"If Death should come with its cold, hasty kiss
Along the trench or in the battle strife,
I'll ask of it no greater boon than this-
That it shall be as wonderful as
Life!" August 11th 2007

We Miss you Reg. A good man and a good friend who brightened all of our lives with your wit, intellect, talent and enthusiasm. We'll not meet another like you in this world. We are all poorer for the loss, but ever so much richer for the wonderful memories you have given us.

Reggie, Paulette, Morgan and Sabrina have played a big part in my life since the early 1970's. It's comforting to have so many good memories to call upon..that's what keeps us going. The quick wit, lots of laughter, debates, Reggie singing Tom Jones or reciting poetry...he definitely brought a lot to the party...and a lot of times was the party.
Please read Shakespear's "All the World's a Stage" (and all the men and women merely players). It pertains to us all. It's a wonderful poem and one Reg recited beautifully. I'm sure Reg must have received an Academy Award for his starring role in this world.
Miss him terribly.

Reg and I originally met one another because of his efforts in rescuing me from the clutches of some pretty dubious seismic retrofit contractors. I was lucky enough to continue my relationship with Reg for long enough that I developed a great respect and admiration for, not only his astonishing intellect, but for his great integrity and character. He was a true gentleman, and I can only hope to lead a life as well lived as his. Thank you for sharing a bit of him with me.
