Dear Dittie,
I am so sorry to hear of Rene's passing. When I think of you both...I think of my Mom. When together there were always good times. I want to believe Mom & all your Balboa friends were there at the gate greeting Rene and now having a good time again. God Bless and hold on to your memories. Love, Joanne

Dear Chavez Family,
I was saddened to hear of Rene's passing. I will never forget my first day in the firehouse at Engine 38 on California St. in 1967. Rene was the first guy to welcome me and take me around and get settled. It was very reassuring to have someone like Rene reach out to you, because the firehouse enviornment was such a different experience. Over the years, I reminded him more than once how grateful I was for his help on my first day in the firehouse. I'm sure I was not the only one during Rene's career he looked out for, but it is a memory I will never forget. He was a true gentleman, fireman, and friend.

Dear Madeline and Chavez Family,
I am saddened to learn of the passing of Rene. We worked together at Engine 42. I was a member of the crew known as the "Young Lions". We were a bunch of young firefighters filled with youthful enthusiasm. Rene was one of our officers. He was an excellent firefighter, outstanding officer and always a gentleman.

Rene' was a Great friend and volunteer at the Toy Program.
He was always willing to do whatever needed to be done his speciality was taking the many, many cardboard boxes that toys are delivered in, and breaking down the boxes, and taking the cardboard to the re-cycling plant. He loved hanging out with the other retired guys in the "Laguna Honda Room" helping with the applications.
Madeline, Thank You for sharing Rene' with us.

Dittie, What more can I say but that I love you all very much and I'm so sorry about Rene. Friendships like the ones you and Rene, Mom and Dad and our families have don't come around very often. From Abbott Ave to today I cherish the memories and the closeness that we all still share. Rene will always be in our hearts. Love you, Jackie and Rich
