Richard Enright Obituary

Richard Frederick Enright
09/27/1954 - 10/25/2025
Richard Frederick Enright passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Pleasanton, CA.
A Daly City native, he was born September 27, 1954 to parents Robert and Cecilia Enright. With siblings Kathleen and Jack leading the way, Rich was the middle child, in turn leading the way for Bob and Mary Pat.
An original WB (Westlake Boy), he attended Our Lady of Mercy Grammar School, and graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep in 1972. He subsequently attended SF State, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology.
In 1980, he married Linda O'Connor who joined him in Livermore, where they raised their son Michael, until separating in 1993.
He graduated from the Alameda County Sheriff's Department 64th Academy Class in 1979, and served as a court bailiff and guard at Santa Rita for several years. Ultimately, his desire to serve the community in a different way led him to study fire science and to a career spanning 30 years beginning with the Castro Valley Fire Department on through its consolidation with the Alameda County Fire Department, where he served as a devoted firefighter, EMT, investigator, and inspector, retiring in 2014.
He was a man known for his big heart, generosity, and sparkling blue eyes. He loved his son. He ran very fast. He really liked classic cars and the Niners. He was a fisherman. He was our hero.
He is survived by his son Michael F. Enright; his siblings Kathleen (Henry), Jack (Anne), Robert (Erin), and Mary (Jack); many nieces and nephews; the WB's and Windsor Drive Gang; and relatives and friends nearby and as far away as Ireland. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his life partner, Leighann Kimbrough Smith.
The family thanks his helper, Melvin; the staff of Stanford Tri-Valley Healthcare and Vitas hospice, in particular Kaitlyn Killian, NP; the Livermore Fire Department; friends Marianna, Larry and Lyle; and neighbors Steve and Jerry for their kindness, caring, and support.

Yesterday

Rich and I were classmates for 8 years while at Our Lady of Mercy Grammar School in Westlake, and Rich was ALWAYS one of the kindest, most polite and nicest boys in our class all those years.
I am so very sorry for the loss of Rich, for his son and for the rest of his family. Please accept my condolences.
I´m sure there are many loved ones with outstretched arms waiting to greet Rich with warm hugs up in Heaven...RIP

"May God hold you in the palm of His hand, Rich..."

Yesterday

I met Rich in 1980 and as a member of the Sheriff's Office where we worked together until he transferred to the Fire Dept. We continued to share so many good times together at work, attending 49er and Giants games, fishing, life events and just hanging out. I am saddened by his passing but so thankful that I had the opportunity know a GREAT GUY!

One vivid memory I have of Rich was in our freshman year at S.I., riding with him in the back of his brother Jack's classic car to a school athletic event in Belmont. It was such an honor to be a freshman riding with a senior in such a "cool" car. With gratitude for the service he provided to so many in his professional career.
