Passed away Saturday, March 1st at the age of 64. He is survived by his wife, Susan, and daughters Emma and Samantha, of whom he was enormously proud. The eldest of four brothers, Rich was born in Waverly, New York to Larry and Phyllis Johns. He spent a year as an exchange student in Sweden and later was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia.
As the owner of Coastside Physical Therapy, Rich had offices in Pacifica and South San Francisco. His commitment to helping others extended to his many volunteer activities, including the Terra Nova High School Band Boosters, St. Andrew Church, and the Sierra Club's Clair Tappaan Lodge.
Friends may visit Friday, March 7, 2014 from 4:00pm -9:00pm at DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Andrew Church in Pacifica at a yet to be determined date.

Here's goodbye Rich, news of your passing comes as a big shock. Deep condolences and sympathy to you Susan, Emma and Samantha, from me, Carol, David and Sammy. We met the Johns family at the Clair Tappaan Lodge at Donner Summit 13 years ago. Rich was working on the hot tub heater/pump apparatus trying to get the old thing to work so that other denizens of the lodge could enjoy a hot soak. His energy and enthusiasm was unbelievable and infectious! Our families lived in the same town, Pacifica, but our paths rarely crossed there. But once or twice a year for 6 or 7 years we would meet up at the lodge, always for the big New Year's Eve party that Rich would organize. Always a wonderful event with lodgers of all ages eating, drinking, dancing, performing in the talent-show, and it was all Rich and the Johns family, schlepping boxes of food and cases of champagne up he 45 degree frozen walkway, cooking, organizing, spreading good cheer everywhere! Later Rich and I worked on the campaign to save the Lodge from closure, and I found out that Rich was instrumental on the Lodge Committee and its many activities. Rich was the kind of person who helps make the World go round. We will miss you, Rich.

As a new patient of Richards, I found him to be incredibly talented and caring. He was an excellent communicator and great listener. He was a kind man and I appreciated his devotion to his patients and his very efficient practice. He proudly spoke of his family. Please take care.
