Richard "Dick" Stanley Miller, born on May 21, 1926 in Peru, Indiana, passed away on May 19, 2024, just two days shy of his 98th birthday. He was the beloved son of Floryda and Floyd Miller, and cherished brother to his late sister Janet. He is survived by his wife, Julie (Girard) Miller, his four daughters, Jenny, Anne, Samantha and Lucy, and his nephews Tommy and John Greenleaf.
Dick graduated from UC Berkeley (BA '47, JD '49) and spent 2 years in the U.S. Army Reserves before starting his career in finance at Davis Skaggs in San Francisco. A savvy stock picker, he was a successful investment specialist, developing deep and lasting relationships with his clients and colleagues and considered a beloved mentor to many. He retired from Morgan Stanley after enduring multiple acquisitions along the way and upon his retirement at age 88, was given special recognition for his 65+ years working for and contributing to the same institution.
Most people will remember Dick for his sharp intellect, kindness and quick wit. He had a strong moral compass, deep integrity, and an incredible work ethic. He was a lover of classical music, an avid reader and lover of words.
Dick was an enthusiastic and respected member of his community and of his many associations which he cherished, including The Bohemian Club, Goodyear Duck Club and Orinda Country Club
Above all else, Dick was the devoted father of his daughters. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family, including his nine grandchildren. He strove to be a positive influence on every one of them and encouraged them to be the best they could be. He is dearly missed by all those who love him.
