Robert Doty Memoriam

Robert L. Doty
Robert L Doty, age 76 passed away peacefully on April 23, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who was born in Effingham, IL on February 21, 1946. He was raised not far from there in Lawrenceville with his parents and two siblings. He attended Southern Illinois University after high school and upon finishing college he relocated to California where he began a 45 year career in the Rail Industry. Robert began working at B.A.R.T in 1970 and was involved in the testing of the new transit system and he stayed through their start up period and ultimately became Manager of Train Operations. He then returned to school and earned his MBA at Golden Gate University in 1985. His career then transitioned to Bechtel, where he and his wife lived in Korea, Taipei, and London while Robert managed several of their high-speed rail projects. These projects included managing System Engineering in Taiwan for their Metro Transit System and the Channel Tunnel link between Dover and the outskirts of London. Upon completion of these projects, he returned to the Bay Area and continued his career with Caltrain and HNTB and ultimately retired in 2017.
Robert married the love of his life, Betty in 1982 and immediately became the father of two sons, Jonathan and Segan. He often took them camping, fishing, on vacation, and was always including them in his home improvement projects. He also enjoyed spending time with his in-laws playing cards or traveling to Lake Tahoe. Robert is missed greatly and was dearly loved; he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty, his two sons Jonathan and Segan, two daughter in laws Diane and Sharon, six grandchildren, Jahleel, Quinton, Nathaniel, London, Lloyd, and Alton. He also leaves behind a brother Stephen (Janice) and his sister Sandra Gotkowski, along with his sister and brother in laws, numerous nieces, nephews, an adopted son, Sean Lockhart, and Nikaela Jacko-Redd, his adopted daughter.
