Robert Fowler Obituary

LAURINBURG — Robert Bryant (R. B.) Fowler died Friday, Aug. 8 at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Morris Morgan Room at Scotia Village officiated by Rev. Linda Nelson. A visitation will follow the memorial service at Scotia Village.

R. B. was born Dec. 26 in Mullins, SC, the son of the late James Furman Fowler and Meekie Belle Fowler. He married the love of his life, Ruby Mae Johnson, and then proudly served his country in WWII as a member of the Army Air Corp. Upon his return R. B. and Ruby settled in Laurinburg. He was on the Laurinburg Police Force for 21 years and retired as Assistant Chief of Police. R. B. then worked for the Scotland County School System in the Maintenance Dept. as a plumber. R. B. was also a member of Laurinburg Masonic Lodge #305. He and Ruby were devoted members of the First Baptist Church in Laurinburg. R. B. had many hobbies, such as woodworking and repairing vintage clocks. He was known around town as the Clock Doctor. He was a beloved member of the community known for his quick wit and love of life and will be missed by many.

He is survived by two daughters, Carol Fowler of Laurinburg and Evelyn Fischer and husband, Ralph of Charlotte; a son-in-law, William S. Myers, Sr. and wife, Carolyn of Greenville; a brother-in-law Palmer Johnson and wife, Nora of Laurinburg; five grandchildren, William Steve Myers, Jr and wife, Jodi, Kathryn Fowler Myers, Christopher Oates, Harris Ipok and Corey Fischer and wife, Jacqueline; three great grandchildren, Paxton Lewis, John Myers and Ellen Fischer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Johnson Fowler, daughter, Kathryn Ann Fowler Myers; a brother, James Furman Fowler and his sisters, Mary Belle Yost, Ida Virgil Fowler and Evelyn Collins.

Donations may be made to the Scotia Village Foundation, 2200 Elm Ave, Laurinburg, NC 28352 or to the Scotland County Humane Society, 1401 West Blvd., Laurinburg, NC 28352.

McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium is serving the family.

I was deeply saddened to hear that R.B. had passed away. I was out of town on vacation during this time. Just found out today that this had happened, and I tried calling you. I am so sorry that I didn't get to see all the family. Hope you all know how much I loved your dad. May God bless and comfort you all.
