Robert Hodge Obituary

Robert Anthony "Tony" Hodge
April 13, 1935 - February 6, 2023
Tony Hodge, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on February 6, 2023 in Oakland, California. He was a man of honor, compassion, intelligence and great humor. He cared deeply about people in the world, his friends, his colleagues, his wife Edie and his children. He led by example, grace and humor and emphasized the importance of hard work and the value of lifelong friendships and loyalty to what you believe in.
Born in San Francisco on April 13, 1935, Tony, a lifetime Bay Area resident, was raised in Aldercroft Heights and Palo Alto and spent his youth exploring the Santa Cruz mountains and beaches. He was a scholar and an athlete, working on the school paper, serving on the student council and playing on both the Golf and Basketball teams at Palo Alto High School. He attended Stanford University where he was on the fencing team, a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, enrolled in ROTC and received a degree in Political Science. After college he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an artillery Officer in Quantico, VA and Okinawa, Japan.
Tony began his professional career at Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation and for 13 years worked in international sales and marketing and human resources in Oakland, California and Jamaica, West Indies. He then moved into the field of Executive Search, working for Staub Warmbold and Associates, Eastman & Beaudine before becoming a director at Spencer Stuart and then a Vice President at Korn Ferry. He ultimately retired as President of Anthony Hodge & Associates, an executive search firm serving a wide range of industries and organizations. With more than 30 years of experience in the field, much of his work focused on telecommunications, data communications, financial services and consumer products.
Post retirement, he enjoyed travel all over the world with Edie, golfed on a weekly basis and served as Chairman of the Board at WiRed International and as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the College of Business at San Francisco State.
He has joined his dear son, Dick Hodge and the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Edie Hodge and will forever be lovingly remembered here by his daughters Kate Hodge, Jane Hodge Athanasakos, son-in-law Nick Athanasakos, grandchildren Tony and Hope Athanasakos, Sister Jeanne Price and countless friends and acquaintances acquired throughout a full and joyous life of 87 years.
A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, May 8th at 2:00 at Mersea Restaurant on Treasure Island, San Francisco.
