To Family and Friends of Colonel Robert J. Lull, MD:

I am one of the many of uniformed services officers who had the honor and privilege of learning the art and science of nuclear medicine from Bob Lull at Letterman Army Medical Center. His untimely and tragic death has left me profoundly sadden. I know calling him “Colonel Lull” may sound strange or unusual to many of you. Regardless of titles, degrees, or rank, Bob Lull was an extraordinary individual who was a true leader, superb teacher and mentor. He was also true colleague and friend. He epitomized the noblest traditions of Civil War Surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Letterman, as being a truly outstanding, brilliant Army physician who gave his better to our patients; to our soldiers and their families placing them first always. He made all of us better people and practitioners. He is missed by all of us. Godspeed, sir.

You are in our thoughts and prays. With profound and deepest sympathies:

Robert K. Leedham, Jr. [LAMC 1972-1974, 1987-88]

I keep thinking of your dad behind his video camera in Belize stumbling around the swarming kids in San Antonio... what fun! I am so sorry about this terrible tragedy. We're thinking of you all.

To the family of Robert Lull,

First, my most heart felt condolences for your loss.

Robert (Bob) was a very special person. He brought so much energy and knowledge to the field of nuclear medicine of which I am part of.

I knew Bob for about 12 years and he was one of the great minds and personalities in the field. Bob always had that great smile, that reflected his enormous love of life.

On my last visit to San Francisco General (March 31st) Bob showed me the photos of his family that he had stored on his iPod Photo. Bob was so very proud of his children and grandchildren.

Over dinner that night at one of Bob’s favorite restaurants (Avatars), we happened to learn that we both play the trombone. We ended up in Bob’s basement playing trombones together until midnight. We agreed that we would have to do it again sometime. But sadly, that will not be possible.

Again, I am so saddened for you and the many others that knew Bob. He truly was a very special person.
