Died of natural causes in St. Helena. Survived by wife of 51 years, Frances Estepa Pastorino; sister Karen Pastorino Eagan; Loving father of Shannon Lewis (Michael), Stephen Pastorino (Teri) and Susan Donohue (Jonathan); Adoring grandpa to Robert, Christian, Alaina (Lewis); Lucca, Declan, Sophia (Pastorino) and Abigail, Ethan, Isabella (Donohue). Son of Stephen Adolph Pastorino and Florence Pierangeli (deceased).
Born and raised in San Francisco, "Bob" graduated from Poly HS and San Francisco State. He served from 1967-1994 as a Foreign Service Officer in the U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C., and in Mexico, Venezuela, Portugal, Colombia, Honduras and Dominican Republic. Named Ambassador to Dominican Republic by Pres. George H. W. Bush in 1991. Received multiple honors including the Department of State Superior Award for Assistance during the 1985 Mexico City Earthquake.
An unrivaled sports fan, he cheered the Giants, 49ers, Warriors and Cal Bears with equal enthusiasm. He was incredibly devoted to his family, with whom he shared his love of all things Italian, books, sports, world affairs, wine and travel.
Services are to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wed., June 12 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 666 Filbert Street, SF. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project would be kindly appreciated.
