A native San Franciscan born August 26, 1922. Son of Walter and Nanette Demarais. Passed away peacefully at his home on December 26, 2013.
Adored father of Peter DeMarais (Jonathan), Catherine Hooper (Mark-deceased), and Jacqueline Coon (David); much loved grandfather of Juliet and Andrew Hooper, and Christopher Coon. Beloved brother to Nanette Snyder, niece Nini and nephew Tom.
Roland graduated from St. James High School, University of San Francisco, University of California Berkeley and San Francisco State University, and served active duty in the Marine Corps. He was an educator and school administrator for four decades in the San Francisco Unified School District, and served as President of the San Francisco School Administrators Union and Vice President of the American Federation of School Administrators after retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the Dolphin Club of San Francisco, was the first editor of the 1949 Dolphin Log, and served as President for two terms.
The family would like to thank Roland's care provider, Fifi Elmoraly for her loving care over the past years.
Friends are invited to attend the Visitation on Thursday, January 2, 2014 starting at 5 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Halsted N.Gray-Carew & English, 1123 Sutter Street, San Francisco A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Brendan The Navigator Roman Catholic Church, 29 Rockaway Avenue, San Francisco. Private Interment.
The family prefers donations be made to the St. Francis Living Room, 350 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco, California 94102.
