I feel so lucky to have crossed paths with Father Ron for a time when his journey brought him to OLA in Burlingame... I only wish he had stayed with us longer.
How Father Ron was able to be equally sincere and sarcastic at the same time, I will never understand. This should not be possible, but somehow it was. I think we all - me, my family, my schoolmates - loved him instantly. I can remember the day Father Ron told our class, "I´m not fat. I´m fluffy." Father Fluffy he was to us, from then on.
I can close my eyes and re-see late night TPing adventures with Ron and Flav; a classmate climbing a ladder to get into his locked friary bedroom to get back at him in one way or another for putting flour in our desks on April Fool´s Day; Julie and I having buckets of water dumped on our heads by he and Flav as we unsuspectingly approached the rectory one day; and my sister Lisa and I coming home to find our bedroom furniture gone one time. (Guess our parents may have trusted them too much, or maybe even encouraged this behavior!)
Only Father Ron could give a person a condescending nickname with such affection that they actually liked it!
Oh and one of the best things was that... while Flav would toss his head back and laugh at his own guilt after a good shenanigan, Father Ron would wear such an innocent look and say such things, that those who didn´t know him too well would even believe it. And this, I think, is what he enjoyed the most!
I like to think that Father Ron is spending some time in Heaven sitting at our old kitchen table with Flav and my dad, drinking one of the beers we kept stocked for their visits. How much they enjoyed each other´s company; it makes me smile to think of them reunited and having a good laugh.
I will always smile, and chuckle a bit, when I think of Father Ron. God rest his soul, until we meet again (if I should be so lucky!).
And as he would always say upon departure... Be Good.

Father Ron was a great friend at St Lawrence. We enjoyed all his stories of his travels, his family, and of course his true companion Frankie. Most importantly he took time to hang out and chat in the hall after mass and enjoy the fellowship at our church events especially the carnivals. Love you Father Ron
