Saburo Nagumo Obituary

Saburo Nagumo, M.D.

Saburo Nagumo, M.D. also known as "Beep", passed away Sept 15, 2016, after a long illness at his home in San Mateo. He was born in Hollywood, CA, and attended public schools in that city. When Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japanese planes, and all people of Japanese ancestry were ordered out of the Pacific coast area, the Nagumo family was interred at Pomona Evacuation Center for about three months. Then they were moved to Heart Mountain Evacuation Center in Wyoming. He graduated high school in camp and then enrolled at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. He was drafted and served a couple of years in the U.S. Army. He earned his medical degree at U.C, San Francisco. He served his internship and two years of surgical residency at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Oakland and Vallejo. He then moved to San Mateo where he opened a solo practice in Family Practice and served his patients for over 40 years.
Dr. Nagumo is survived by his wife of 65 years, Masako, and three children, Mark (Janis) of Alexandria, VA., Glen of San Jose, CA, and Karen of Seattle, WA, and three sisters, Susan Takagi of Washington, D.C., Mariko Borofsky of San Mateo, CA, and Reiko Nagumo of Sacramento, CA., as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. His Father, Mother and three brothers predeceased him. Plans for services will be announced at a later date. My deepest condolences to the Nagumo family. Dr. Nagumo delivered me into this world and I am grateful for the wonderful care he provide to me growing up and 3 generations of our family. He was also a big part of our family!

Dr. Nagumo made house visits to me and my family in 1958 when we fled from Cuba. He was our family physician for 44 years. We will remember him as our sapient and sentient physician. Our deepest condolences to his wife and children.

I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Nagumo passing away. He was my first Doctor when my family came to this Country in the 60's. I have fond memories of him. I can still picture his smiling face.
