Sam Hock Obituary
Sam's boat, JOSE CUERVO a J 105, was a familiar sight at bay races, winning 1st place in 1997 in his division in the St. Francis Big Boat Series. His most famous race was the Honolulu Kenwood_Cup in which his boat was left behind on the dock by the freighter in Oakland, CA. To make the race on time, the shipper flew Jose Cuervo to Honolulu on a chartered Russian transport plane. Sam and his crew made it to the regatta with one hour to spare and ultimately came in third overall.
Sam was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where he learned to sail, but spent his boyhood on a ranch in Longmont, Colorado. He moved to Sausalito in 1959 where he practiced Real Estate for 50 years. He served on the Sausalito School Board for 13 years and diligently served on the SYC Youth Sailing Board for many years.
Sam was a man who loved family, Sausalito, Pinecrest, teaching young people to sail, and being of service to those in need. He will be missed.
