Samuel Eggers Obituary

Samuel Whitlow Eggers Feb. 12, 1924 - March 17, 2012 Resident of Sunnyvale Samuel Whitlow Eggers, age 88 died peaceful at home on Saturday March 17. Born February 12, 1924 in Albuquerque New Mexico, and raised in Visalia California, Sam graduated from Visalia High School, and joined the Navy in 1941. He was decorated for his service in the Pacific during World War II, earning among other honors the Purple Heart. He served in active duty for six years. When he returned from the War he completed a bachelor's degree Fresno State University. On May 8th, 1954 Sam was married to Elva Bricca Eggers, of San Francisco. They enjoyed marriage together for nearly sixty years. Elva, who lives in the home they established in 1965 in Sunnyvale, and a sister Phyllis Nesbitt of Visalia, California, survive Sam. Sam leaves behind two sons and their wives: Alan and Annette Eggers of Auburn, and Barry and Meredith Eggers of Los Altos Hills, five grandchildren (Alexandra, Stephen, Samantha, Andrew and Natalie) and one great grandchild (Ronan). He will also be missed by his grandogs, Tonka and Bella. Sam loved golf and was a member of Stanford Golf Club for 46 years. He won the club championship twice and is rumored to have played more rounds on the course than any other member. A private family Graveside Service was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos. Memorial funds are being established in his name at the Parkinson's Institute, and Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. Thanks to Pathways Hospice Services for making it possible for Sam to be at home with his family and to pass with dignity. He was loved and will be missed.
